Boring. The Scirocco deserves its own distinctive, classic 'heritage' style look. Not a rebadged TT.

Disappointed.

24 Definately not, I dont imagine this will come with anything larger the 2.0 TFSI. Small coupes like this are very popular in Europe, especially here in the UK. As has been mentioned I would speculate that its highly likely this will come with a 1.4TSI unit and perhaps even the fantastic 2.0TDI (is either 140PS or 170PS guise) given the way petrol prices are going!

29 Very likely, I imagine it'll be built on the Golf/A3/TT platform which can handle 4motion but it'll bump cost up and VAG wont want it to eat into TT sales. I imagine the entry level model with be priced well under 20,000GBP with a modestly power FWD drive train. As for effecting GTi sales, I also doubt that'll be an issue as hot hatches appeal to a totally different market.

im not on drugs, that rendering does look like the scion tc, if you cant see that your on drugs. and also i didnt claim it was the official rendering, so dont acuse me of that, it better not look like that because its not distinctive enough. take another look at a Tc it has so many of the same styling cues as that rendering... and i hate it.

"Toyota and the rest are all busy copying them."
Scion TC is a 7/8ths 1987 Volvo 780.
Camry uses the Mazda 6 front end and the BMW 5-Series rear end.

I would like to see the Scirocco with a 1.4l direct-injection supercharged and turbocharged four-cylinder. Starting price $20K. Make a coupe version of the Eos.

Remember there was talk of the 6th gen Golf/Rabbit/GTI coming out in the fall of 2008. Perfect time to position car above the Scirocco and below the Eos.

you're right, i remember reading something similar. VW isnt killing the phaeton, but i think they learned their lesson, Let Audi be Audi, not VW be Audi. I will buy this if it is significantly cheaper than the TT, otherwise i'm buying the TT, and extra 3-5k over 4 years is worth it for the fact i get to sit behind the wheel of a TT but an extra 7-8k i'll get the VW. Since my income, age, and education level make me VW's target market, i'm sure they know that already.

VW has plans to reduce the content of the Golf to get it back to the entry level price. I can remember reading and article that says the interior bits are expensive to install cause it takes awhile. They are planning a new platfrom 2years ahead of schedual from what i can remember, that will be better for the manufacturing process. So if anything look for the prices of the GTI/golf to drop. the GTI will not die, VW may be selling them at a lose but the GTI name is what gets buys into the showroom. im going to see if i can find the article i read this info in.

See, you have to realize you're dealing with a corporation, and a corporation will do anything in the name of a profit, even killing the GTI (only in the US btw, they cant sell it at a price that brings a profit here). Im not saying it's going to happen, but having the attitude that it wont ever happen is just being ignorant. Corporations have no loyalty to the consumers or history, they are only concerned with their shareholders. Legally, afterall, thats what they are supposed to do. They could produce this new product at a different facility along with other various factors to make it economically feasible. Either that or expect GTI prices to go higher cause the current situation isn't going to remain.

think? - if VW is loosing money on GTI - how do you think they will price the coupe at the same price level, I just don't follow your logic, unless you're saying that they will kill GTI completely. And that is not going to happen. The coupe will be at least a few thousand more than the GTI.

Same car though... GTI is performance version. But seriously VW is losing money on the GTI's, sounds crazy but corporations do crazy things when they lose money, and as much as people don't want to believe it, it's either kill the GTI or raise it's price, and it's already expensive for what you get....

i honestly don't see VW pricing the car above the GTI. VW is actually losing money on the GTI's because they are so expensive to make. Since VW is changing the name of the GTI to the Rabbit again (yes, it is happening, get over it) I think VW might drop the high end models and plug this car in at that price point... but no way are they gonna slot it that close to the TT. The TT actually turns a profit for VW. Just my opinion but it seems possible looking at things VW has said about it's future right?

#6.. forgot to read that this was an unoffical rendering? the car in the picture doesnt exist except in a photoshop file... BUT, toyota doesn't have the balls to put a car that hot into production... they would add at least 60 unnecessary surfaces, and about 13 creases on the sides that make no sense at all...

The GTI can easily get into the high $20k. I dont think VW could sell a Corrado for 27k if it has the same engine as the $22k GTI. What could they do to make that extra $5k worth it? I dont see why they couldn’t price it the same as the GTI/GLI. There would be a Hatchback, Sedan and a Coupe all built on the same platform, with the same engine/drive train (IE: Saving money from parts sharing). There would be a flavor for every buyer. They can put the 3.2 VR6 into it and then possibly a TDI engine...that would be a BIG hit. the 1st manufacture to come out with a FUN diesel car is going to have a huge hit on its hands. VW understands this concept as evident from the Ecoracer and GX3. Hell if they put the 2.0l TDI into a GTI (IE: suspension; brakes, interior, appearance) they couldn’t keep enough on the lot.

There would be a Hatchback, Sedan and a Coupe all built on the same platform, with the same engine/drive train (IE: Saving money from parts sharing). There would be a flavor for every buyer. They can put the 3.2 VR6 into it and then possibly a TDI engine…that would be a BIG hit. the 1st manufacture to come out with a FUN diesel car is going to have a huge hit on its hands. VW understands this concept as evident from the Ecoracer and GX3. Hell if they put the 2.0l TDI into a GTI (IE: suspension; brakes, interior, appearance) they couldn’t keep enough on the lot.

SS, don't count on a 2.0T at 24k... that's GTI territory. I say it will start at 27k or so and will be 29-30k for 2.0T nicely equipped.

Nice, but if they price the V6 4Motion version at 35K, then forget it.
