While the source of this information is not rock-solid, the content only makes sense. A member of an enthusiast online community for Subaru Impreza s posted a scan of a supposed corporate note sent to North American Subaru dealers advising them of changes to the 2009 WRX, the most notable of which includes a power bump to an “estimated” 265 horsepower.

The second-most important piece of news in the leak includes the addition of an Impreza GT model, which will basically be the current, 224hp WRX with an automatic transmission only, likely the existing four-speed unit.

The WRX will also get an upgraded suspension to go with the power upgrade, though exactly what changes that includes is not disclosed. This model will be exclusively offered with a manual transmission, again likely to be a carried-over five-speed. Other, detail changes to the WRX will include new gray colored wheels, an STI-type front grill and a standard aero package on the outside, while the interior will get red stitching on the steering wheel and seats.

The changes are likely for two reasons, one being the 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback, which will trump the current WRX with its 235hp rating. The other is that the power bump is relatively easy to achieve, as the WRX already shares the same basic 2.5 liter engine with the 305hp STi. The only changes the Japanese automaker would have to make are likely to include ancillaries such as a bigger turbo, revised tuning and fuel system upgrades.

The not also mentions the 2009 Impreza range will benefit from the addition of a moonroof in the premium package and unspecified ivory interior changes.
