GM considering new-look green logo?

Blue has managed to become the new green in the automotive world- thanks to environmentally friendly nameplates such as Bluetec, Bluemotion, i-Blue and BlueSport - but General Motors is reportedly considering changing its corporate logo from blue to green to show its new commitment to eco-friendly products.

According to the Associated Press, GM is seriously considering changing the background of its logo from blue to green. In fact, the decision making process is said to be at the top level with GM design boss Ed Welburn leading a group that will ultimately make a decision on the color swap proposal.

GM is said to be keen on the idea as it better reflects the company's commitment to the environment and its newfound ability to make decisions faster. GM is planning to thin its executive ranks by more than 30 percent this year, a move that should help get decisions to the top much faster.

It has also been rumored that the Detroit automaker is mulling a name change from GM to GM Next, a phrase GM has been using for the last two years or so. However, it remains unclear if that name change is a part of the proposed color switch.

GM's new look could come in the coming days as the Detroit automaker looks to emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy as early as Friday.
