Smart cars do not growl. I would personally like to drive a metallic purple 1967 Pontiac GTO with a bored out supercharged 450CID V8 motor with straight pipes. I can't say I'd feel a whole lot safer... but what the hell, atleast in that I'd die driving way too fast and wrecklessly rather than getting crushed by an Expedition in a parking lot. All I said is that there are a few cars that I "feel" like a rolling coffin... the smallest of the small vehicles (back seat of a Mini, civic hatch, smart...) I think are too small. I drive a '04 dodge stratus for f**ks sake! how does a 34 mpg v-6 sound! (well, 25mpg when flogging it in the city, 34 highway) I NEVER said ANYTHING about a SUV being safer, I simply stated that I would not feel safe in something THAT small. I drive a Smart CDI in Canada, it is my only car and it has been great over the last year. Very capable in the snow, 60mpg actual mileage in city driving and if you have never actually been in one you would be very surprised how large they feel. I do agree that it is a city car and I would not take it on a long highway journey but with four airbags, abs and essentially a roll cage around me I do feel safe! That false sense of safety is something that people really need to look at, just because you drive a large SUV or Truck does not mean you are instantly safer, size does not equal saftey in all cases.
