The Detroit Auto Show may not have the list of attendees it had just a few short years ago – with the likes of Nissan , Land Rover and Porsche dropping out of the annual show – but the growing number of dropouts is allowing the show to expand in other areas.
Thanks to a surplus of available space, the 2010 Detroit show will feature a 37,000 square foot exhibit dedicated to electric vehicles. Dubbed “Electric Avenue”, the exhibit will feature 20 vehicles from varying companies. Show representatives are hopeful that the exhibit will show “the long-term viability of the auto industry using a subject that is top of mind globally these days.”

Vacancies at last year’s Detroit show allowed organizers to fill Cobo’s lower level with an environmentally friendly EcoXperience exhibit. The EcoXperience exhibit – which let show goers try out the latest green vehicles on a quarter mile track – will make a repeat appearance at this year’s show.

Dow Chemical will sponsor the Electric Avenue exhibit. Dow is striving to become a leading in vehicle battery technology and has already begun construction on a $665 million battery plant just outside of Midland, Michigan.
