2010 Mazda3 pre-production concept actually Photoshop rendering

07/01/2008, 11:51 AM

By Drew Johnson

Some things in life are just too good to be true. Such is the case with the images of the 2010 Mazda3 5-door we brought you yesterday. Originally believed to be leaked photos of a pre-production concept, it has been discovered that the images are actually just Photoshop renderings.

The images were first posted on Russia’s Render.ru, but quickly spread to several automotive sites.

Laurens van den Acker, Mazda’s design chief, said the new Mazda3 would showcase a new design direction, which led us to believe we were looking at the real deal. The creator of the renderings did a spot on job incorporating Mazda’s Nagare design theme as well as combining concept with production design elements.

With a launch date set for 2009, it should be too much longer until Mazda gives us an idea of what the real Mazda3 will look like.

Thank god it was fake. It’s a bit silly looking for what is supposed to be an economy car. I do like the front and the rear borderline, but everything in between is overdone.

Aww… that’s too bad. It’s a really nice design overall.

I’m actually surprised that anyone thought it’s not a Photoshop job.

Whoever thought this up ought to be designing cars.

This rooozski should get a job at Mazda.

Or maybe better yet he can save Ford.

Thank goodness it’s a fake…

Ugly in my book.

Droopy snout…. and what’s with the cellulite above the rocker panels.

Too busy…. gimmicky look that would not age well.

Why is this even a question? There have been spy shots of the new 3 running around the net for months and it looks nothing like this. Sad… as I like the mockups.

I admit I was hopeful that it was at least 60% correct.. but I stand by my earlier post on the previous article that the grille and greenhouse is probably very close to accurate, but the headlights, front fenders and door handle placement are quite obviously different from the sedan mule we’ve all seen, and from Mazda’s other current offerings. While I do like the conceptualized rear end, it was a bit too much Audi- and Alfa-inspired.

Thank goodness! The car in the pictures is hideous. My faith is Mazda’s designers has been restored. I can’t wait to see the real deal soon.

OOPS!

My previous post should have read: “My faith IN Mazda’s designers has been restored.” I guess I was so relieved that this wasn’t an indication of the next gen Mazda3 that I forgot to read my post prior to submitting it.

My bad!

This site continues to present a LOT of clowns’ views with no taste in cars … this thing, as a few others have mentioned, is horrible looking. The front end screams Pontiac Sunfire. The rear end has droopy design features personifying a sad and disgraced look. The side, with the unnecessary and overdone scallops, looks amateurishly busy.

‘Mazdaman’, I agree.

Hey but if you think that is a Mazda and not a car that is going to save your world it’s good looking, or at least interesting.
