2010 meets 2008: Chevy Camaro named ‘Official Vehicle of 2008 SEMA Show’

06/19/2008, 10:51 AM

By Drew Johnson

The Specialty Equipment Market Association has announced that the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro will be the official vehicle of this year’s SEMA Show in Las Vegas. The SEMA Show is one of the largest automotive accessory trade shows in the world and will likely showcase GM Performance parts that will be available for the new Pony Car.

Chevrolet ended production of the Camaro in 2002 but Peter MacGillivray, SEMA VP of events and communications, says the iconic nameplate has such a rich history of customization that the new one is worthy of wearing the ‘official vehicle’ title. “The influence that the Camaro has had on the automotive industry and vehicle personalization is undeniable,” said MacGillivray. “Since the car was introduced in 1967, enthusiasts have fallen in love with the Camaro. It’s simply a great example of the passion and excitement that comes from this industry.”

The 2010 Camaro is slated to be introduced at the Indy 08, Back at the Brickyard Event in September. Earlier this year, pictures of a Camaro sporting GM Performance parts leaked, likely giving us an idea of what to expect from the SEMA Show in November.

The SEMA Show kicks off November 4.

I don’t wear a mullet, nor am I a beaner and I actually don’t mind it. It’s probably the better looking of all the current “muscle cars”, including Mustang, Challenger, and Charger. The G8 (a GOAT by anything other than its name) is probably the best-looking of them all. The Camaro actually looks a bit Japanese to me. Little surprise since the lead designer is Japanese. lol

At this rate, the Camaro may be the first car to have a MMC before it’s even launched. After two years of spy photos, it does seem a bit dated already.

Oh yea, all those 2.5, 2.8, 3.1, 3.4 & 3.8l Camaros just had testosterone dripping off their tailpipes. I’ll give you this much: the driver’s of those models might have been dripping but it sure as hell wasn’t testosterone.

Any chance that GM is overhyping the Camaro? By the time it comes to market, I think we’ll all be burned out on it.
