I don't think this car/truck hybrid will sell at all. Why did they start making four door trucks? To be more practical. This will only be a two seater with a bed. I can't see anyone using this to haul manure or use it as a contracting or landscaping truck. Maybe someone will tow a small boat or trailer but that's it. No one would want to take it on rough dirt terrain. It doesn't have enough ground clearance and you wouldn't want to scratch those nice rims. If you want a truck buy a Colorado, if you want a two door, two seat sporty car buy a Solstice. Who ever decides to buy this car better keep it in good condition because it will be a rare car ten years from now. Like the Subaru Baja, at least that had rear seats. GM needs to concentrate on being more competitive in popular segments not bring a car with such a small niche to the market. I predict it will last max three years.

I still have yet to see you offer any proof that the El Camino in any generation was based upon Camaro. Further more I find your attempt at insulting me to be quite rediculous. I didn't resort to name-calling to try to get my point across... so why did you? As far as my statement about El Camino and Monte Carlo goes... it is factual, if incomplete. The only El Camino I have personal experience with is the one my father drove when I was growing up... a 78 model. It was based off of the Monte... and could be seen as the direct predecessor of this G8 ST.

Now, why are you saying "if you want to get technical" with a question? I'm getting technical, so enlighten me gayjc08. And if you'd like to get "technical" Wikipedia does mention all five generations, not just two. I only based my argument on the origins of the El Camino, which, in regards to the original statement, was not based on the Camaro or the Monte Carlo.

A book? Well, pull out your book "son", because those two generations mentioned are the only two that are mentioned on Wikipedia! If you'd like to get technical, why didn't they base the first generation El Camino off of the Bel Air, or second generation Impala when they decided to include a station wagon variant at the same time of the El Camino's switch to the Chevelle Platform?

Not quite Rainewoman...if you want to get technical, the El Camino (First Gen. 1959-1960) was a Brookwood with a bed, or the Second Gen. (1964-1967) was a Chevelle with a bed. You're thinking of Fifth Gen.

Should probably go read a book, son.

That's very good news. I've been looking forward to something like this for a long time. If only it was much less expensive, contractors, businesses, everyone would be buying them up.

I disliked them then, and I dislike them now. A vehicle only a Texan can love given it will accommodate a ten gallon hat. It is neither truck nor car—it's an abortion. I'm waiting for some farmer to hack-up a CTS and make it into one of these. He'll be the talk of his town...yee haa!

We don't even get the DI V6 in Australia...yet.

It's a turbo 4... heheheh. Still runs fairly well. If it gets me through winter it's gonna be time for a rebuild next spring.
On topic... I don't really get interested in that many new vehicles anymore... too big, and too many nick-nacks and electronic nannies for my likings... but this truck looks to have the right stuff. Any guesses as to what the curb weight of this thing is going to be? It's gotta be less than the G8 sedan or the Camaro. A vehicle like this would be quite useful... a fun daily commuter with enough cargo space to handle anything I may need to haul. I'm tired of cars with tiny trunks.

to c6racer: how many 1989 cars are still on the road.. are you serious? how can you say honda is unreliable? ... realistically, there are a TON of early to late 90's hondas on the road doing just fine. Not many badges of car have such reliability! gosh, a nissan v6 from 1989 is the one of the only engines i can imagine of that vintage to be running well to this day without an entire rebuild.

how are we even talking about imports here?

to c6racer: how many 1989 cars are still on the road.. are you serious? how can you say honda is unreliable? … realistically, there are a TON of early to late 90′s hondas on the road doing just fine. Not many badges of car have such reliability! gosh, a nissan v6 from 1989 is the one of the only engines i can imagine of that vintage to be running well to this day without an entire rebuild.

wow, ten years late. Great job GM!! Maybe now you can introduce a back up camera too, or is that planned for the 2012 refresh?

Should get a 6 speed stick v6.. camaro's gettin' this exact engine / transmission combo :)

I think they've got a winner here. Imagine all sorts of people buying this instead of smaller pickups.. mazda b series.. ford edge.. toyota tacoma.. etc.

small sporty cars that get acceptable mpg? hmm.... kinda like the 90's? i definetely think it's time for a comeback and the G8 ST is in the right place!

very sweet indeed. I hope this is mated with the 6 speed auto and a few new options. Do not expect a manual. If you want the stick get the GXP, period.

My mother sure as hell wouldn't mind one of these. Every time she goes to Costco for my younger siblings, her '89 Accord barely makes it home. A dead cylinder doesn't help either. I have a hard time believing Honda's are the most reliable because my family and all my relatives have always had such bad luck with them.

Excellent. Now put in a 6spd stick and I may have to change my thinking on this one.

I think this is going to be a total winner for people who want the comfort and mileage of a car but desire the utility of a pickup!
