Hello, MY first time here. Need more oil for GM, why are so angry at car manufacturers other than GM?
I think GM in the last couple of years has come a long way. For example the Cadillac CTS and the Chevrolet Camaro. I would buy either. You have to admit NMOFGM that GM had lost its way, like FORD and Chrysler. Quality has been an issue for the big three for some time but they have gotten better in the last few years. Admittedly Toyota, Honda, ET AL, have their quality issues as well, however; they are preceived to be better quality. Also, have you looked into content of a vehical. Some american cars have more foreign content than foreign cars. I own a 2007 Toyota Sienna XLE, it has 80% American content. It is built in America,Indiana and puts Americans to work that helps local economies. Bottom line is, as Americans, we have freedom of choice, wheather I buy the very cool Cadillac CTS Wagon or a Toyota Sienna, I have that choice. My problem is that our Marxists government is going to force us to buy tiny little hybrid cars not many people want to buy. They will raise the price of gas so high that we have to buy more fuel efficient cars. Last time I checked I still live in the USA. Have you herd that they just past the cash for clunkers bill. This will effect the car collector market with the many v-8 equiped cars being crushed for a few housand dollars for a new fwd hybrid piece of crap. Purple

Subaru's are hands down more reliable than chevy's. Look at any real car magazine or consumer reports and you'll find that to be true. My friend who even owns a chevy knows it has maybe a five year life span of being a decent car. See. . . GM missed the quality movement and Japanese makers didn't.

@LWA-Very geographically oriented. In MN, everyone wanted one. In Ohio, we didn't see many. In Tacoma they are everywhere. (I hear you can add NH and VT to the list as well). I just test drove the new Forester. Not bad. Everyone says "car like handling" but I thought it was school bus next to my MPV. It could replace the "big bad" (MPV) when it croaks though.

LLLLN3- you just do not like any carmaker it seems. How can you put down the Camaro? Subaru's have excellent quality, but if i am not mistaken, i am pretty sure that the Malibu scored pretty high in reliability and qualtiy ratings. Plus, your son had a RENTAL CAR, and all rentals have been driven by mney diffferent people, so they are not going to impress you. I once bought a used Chevy Blazer that used to be a rental car, and it was terrible, plus it had locks on the spare and on other places because it was a rental car! My neighbor had bought a brand new Blazer the around the same time, and the only problem he had was with the antifreeze, Don't buy nor judge a rental car.

JakeK66 - I think the previous gen Legacy is a great looking car; I think this new 2010 Legacy is a great looking car. Always remember that opinions are not facts; just because a vocal minority "say" something is so, it doesn't make it true.

I owned a last gen Legacy and it was one of the best cars I've ever had. It was built with good materials, inside and out, and looked like a sports sedan. I'm not the typical Subaru buyer, in any shape or form, but they make some good products.

Now Borat, rental companies (the one that owns where I work) does rent out lots of Subarus in Colorado and Washington and they all do quite well.

The WRX styling has grown on me, I hope this does the same.
Regardless I second the tranny complaint. The problem is due to the unique layout they cant just share trannies with other makers.

Ya know NMOFGM, when I was in China I got to see a ton of car factories... and GM had the most, (Ford had quite a few though) and it seems that the only country that likes GM is China.

Like I said earlier.. GM, a Chinese revolution.

Good to see Subie doing well though. I've enjoyed all the Imprezas and Legacies I've driven. Though my favorite is the '06 STi my friend has :D

i put 400 miles on a rental malibu last year and i was impressed...you have to take into account what it is, though...as a highway cruiser, i was comfy all day, and it handled pretty well...not the tightest handling on the planet in the twisties, or the strongest motor (this was a 4-cyl malibu), but it was good overall...i think they're a little overpriced, but not by much...

no personal experience with the subie (unless a rental legacy wagon in 1997 counts), although there do seem to be loyal subie people out there...my first car was a honda, an old prelude, and that car was awesome, so i considered myself a honda guy for a long time...they offer just about nothing that i like now, though, so i'm not so much a honda guy these days...subie people, i guess, are still getting the subie thing they're after...they do have their niche...non-toyota, non-honda japanese awd family-sized vehicles...

A Chevrolet Malibu is better built and will last 100 times longer than a POS Subaru that will see the junkyard once the warranty is up. What a joke comparing a foking Subaru to a class leading Malibu.

Get a clue.

There are that many stupid people? Oh ya, the article says Sushiland. Let them have their POS cars. This is GM Country. We only drive General Motors vehicles if we want any respect. Otherwise those who don't drive GM, Ford are unAmerican dikheads who need to either comit suicide for treason or get their sorry asses shipped out of the Country.

About rentals....

If there's a 2010 Fusion in a rental fleet yet then I'll be a monkey's uncle.

Also, anybody judging the Malibu based on the previous version is a monkey's uncle.

A4's equipped with 4WD and a few add ons go for near 50 K . A WRX for 25 K handles better and goes faster then any Audi except the R8. True, they don't look as good inside or out, but they will still be running after 3 years. As far as the Malibu goes, a decent car that is not being fully supported by GM

you are retarded if you think a malibu is better than a subaru legacy! For one thing, the engine sucks, it's wrong wheel drive, handling sucks, I can keep on going if you want! Malibu...hahaha...what a joke!!

Subaru owners must just get off on "buying different" because all their mainstream models are totally unimpressive.

I hope with the increased revenue they are getting from records sales, they will invest that into developing better transmissions. The Impreza comes with a pathetic 4 speed, and the new Legacy is not that much better with only a 5 speed automatic.

actually, an audi a4 or a3 wagon would only be a few k more expensive. I think that this is not really that big of news, seeing as Japanese people buy things based on ugliness.

Every rental car company has Malibu (is this new market segment or something?) very few Subarus. Granted my Subaru fell apart just after 3 years warranty, but their reputation is much better then domestics can master. Furthermore, there isn't much competition is this market segment: if you are looking for AWD the next one is Audi that costs twice as much and lasts half the time.

^^^ Our son rented one to travel with, and his thoughts were less than stellar on the Malibu; said it was pretty much a dog on the road.
^^^ The Malibu... just returned from a 10-day vacation where I had a Malibu for a rental. We were all impressed by it. The ride was excellent, gas mileage was 29-30 MPG, seats were comfortable, handling was very good. Way better than the Fusion last month which seemed to be a step down one grade.

We will definitely look at one when we replace our Honda

Throughout life I've had friends who owned a Subaru...they still own a Subaru. In this economy buyers want a vehicle they feel that they will get their money out of—and that isn't a GM or a Chrysler product.

So, doubters, have you finally figured out that "looks" is a minor factor in whether people buy a Subaru or not?
