Honda updates Insight for 2011, adds new base model

Honda has updated its 2011 Insight hybrid for the 2011 model year, including a new entry-level model.

Honda has announced a host of changes for its 2011 Insight hybrid, including an all-new entry level mode. The 2011 Honda Insight officially goes on sale today.

The biggest change for 2011 is a new Insight base model, which is simply designated as "Insight." Like all Insight models, the new base model includes front and side curtain air bags, anti-lock brakes, automatic climate control and power windows. The Insight also comes with Vehicle Stability Assist, which becomes standard across the line for 2011. In order to keep costs down, the base Insight comes with a two-speaker CD audio system, but rewards buyers with a starting price of just $18,950, including destination.

The Insight LX remains on offer for 2011, adding a four-speaker stereo and a security system. Several new standard features are also on tap for the 2011 LX model, including cruise control, a USB audio interface, armrest console and floor mats.

The EX trim level stays on board for 2011, standing as the line's range-topper. It adds a six-speaker audio system, alloy wheels, steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters and heated side mirrors.

All 2011 Insight models are powered by a 1.3L four-cylinder paired with Hond's hybrid drive. The 2011 Insight is rated at 40/43mpg city/highway.
