McLaren F1 successor to arrive in 2014, rival Bugatti Veyron performance

McLaren will finally launch a successor to its storied F1 model in 2014, and the projected performance figures suggest the car will be worth the wait.

McLaren is said to be moving full-speed ahead with a successor to its legendary F1 model. Internally known as "˜Mega Mac', the new-age F1 should be in dealer showrooms by 2014.

Originally rumored for a 2012 launch, the Mega Mac is proving to be a huge undertaking for the British firm, with McLaren now targeting performance figures to topple even the mighty Bugatti Veyron.

At the heart of the Mega Mac will be an all-new 5.0L V8. Being jointly-developed with Ricardo, the new mill will produce an astonishing 799 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. Thanks to that power and the extensive use of lightweight materials, the Mega Mac will be able to accelerate from 0-60 in just 2.8 seconds, with the sprint to 100 flashing by in 5.5 seconds. Look for the run from 0-200 to take a mere 20 seconds - besting the Veyron by a full two seconds.

Styling-wise, the Mega Mac should pull its cues from the MP4-12C and the original F1. Insiders have described the Mega Mac's styling as "bigger, angrier and more functional looking" than the MP4-12C.

No word if the Mega Mac will retain the F1's center driver's seat, but don't expect an ultra-luxurious cabin -- the Mega Mac will instead focus on all-out performance. However, the car will be fitted with an on-board logging system, including a camera system to record hot laps.

All that performance will come at a price though. Expect the production version of the Mega Mac to carry a price tag as high as $650,000.
