There is no shortage of high-performance luxury sedans these days – with the segment now including entrants Aston Martin and Porsche – but Audi will soon add one more in the form of the next-generation S8.
The current Audi A8 already delivers good performance from its 372 horsepower 4.2L V8 – the A8 is capable of accelerating from 0-60 in 5.7 seconds – but for those wanting the ultimate in performance, the hotter S8 is just around the corner.
According to Car and Driver, the S8 will arrive next year with a turbocharged 4.0L V8. Although that engine is smaller than the outgoing 5.2L V10 in the S8, the bent-eight will deliver up to 520 horsepower. No performance figures have been revealed, but the S8 should be able to hit 60 from a standstill in the 4 second range.
The next-gen S8 is expected to carry a price tag just north of the $100,000, which is actually a bit of a bargain when considering the competition.
