Dodge will make Pentastar power more affordable than ever before by offering the 3.6-liter V6 on the Avenger midsize sedan's bottom-rung SE trim level for the first time.

With a starting price of $22,345 (including destination), the Avenger SE V6 is the least expensive Chrysler product to pack a Pentastar mill under the hood. In this application the six-cylinder engine makes 283 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, which Chrysler says is enough to give the car best-in-class power.

Chrysler also states that the 29-highway-mpg Avenger SE V6 achieves the fuel economy of a four-cylinder sedan. However, that claim is really only true if the four-cylinder car in question is the standard Avenger SE, which returns just 30 mpg on the highway thanks in part to its antiquated four-speed automatic. Almost all of the competition's four-cylinder sedans return significantly better mileage.

Despite being one of the least expensive six-cylinder vehicles on the market, the Avenger SE V6 doesn't skimp on appearance thanks to 18-inch aluminum wheels, a rear decklid spoiler and dual exhaust with bright tips.
