It was over six months ago that reports first began to surface that Hyundai was working on a 5.0-liter V8 for its Genesis sedan, which Leftlane later confirmed in late August to in fact be the case.

Hyundai’s move to release a 5.0-liter V8 for the 2012 Genesis meant the Korean automaker had to move up the refresh schedule for the sedan, which it did in order to keep its cadence with the Equus sedan launch. Now, according to John Krafcik, Hyundai USA president, according to The Detroit News.

Of course, those following Hyundai’s recent push to become a fuel economy leader may be scratching their heads regarding this new hi-po V8, but Krafcik’s answer to that question might settle that for you, “We like to have our cake and eat it too. We want to lead the industry in fuel economy…At the same time, we’re launching 429 horsepower V8 engine cars that get amazing fuel economy.”

It is also believed that an eight-speed automatic will be added to the Genesis, but details will need to be confirmed by the automaker later this week at the Chicago Auto Show.

Krafcik also confirmed that the new V8 will start arriving in late March and will carry a starting price tag somewhere between $45,000 and $50,000.
