The North American International Auto Show in Detroit is one of the crown jewels of the global auto show circuit, but its shine won’t be so bright this year as Craftsman has announced it will launch a new lawn mower at the annual show.
The Detroit show has been home to some of the most important production and concept vehicle reveals over the years, but the 2012 version of the show is guaranteed to have at least one debut that won’t go down in automotive history.
Craftsman has announced it will use the Detroit show to reveal its latest CTX tractor. Craftsman is quick to point out that the CTX will be “the first tractor ever to be at the Detroit event.â€
“We are launching this new line of Craftsman tractors because homeowners with larger lawns and more rugged terrains want a durable, high-performance tractor mower to help them maintain a beautiful lawn,” said Kris Malkoski, vice president and general manager of the Craftsman brand. “Because Detroit has given us great performing cars with best-in-class features, we think it is logical to bring a tractor to the Auto Show that does the same.”
Although we’d contest that the NAIAS is the “logical†place to launch a new tractor, the CTX does sound like one tricked out lawn chopper. The CTX – which stands for “Craftsman Tractor Experience†– boasts a 30 horsepower Briggs & Stratton engine, Automatic Traction Control, cruise control, power steering and a 12-volt adaptor.
For those interested, the CTX will hit Sears stores nationwide in February with prices ranging from $2,999.99 to $6,499.99.
