Confirming a long-standing rumor, Chevrolet has just announced that it will offer the Cobalt sedan in Russia and in select European countries starting next January.

The Cobalt in question is entirely different from the model that was sold in the United States up until recently. Initially designed with the Brazilian market in mind, it rides on the same platform as the Chevrolet Spin minivan and measures 175 inches long, 68 inches wide and 59 inches tall. It boasts 19.8 cubic feet of trunk space.

Heavily influenced by Chevrolet's global design language, the Cobalt's front end features a prominent grille and sleek headlights. The back end is fitted with upright taillights and a trunk lid that extends all the way down to the bumper to make loading and unloading bulky items as painless as possible.

The Cobalt's interior is simple and modern. It has storage bins on both sides of the dashboard, an analog speedometer and a three-spoke steering wheel.

Chevrolet will only offer the 2013 Cobalt with a single engine, a gasoline-burning 1.5-liter four-cylinder unit that sends 105 horsepower to the front wheels via either a five-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic.

The European-spec Chevrolet Cobalt is scheduled to make its public debut at the Moscow Motor Show later this month. When it hits the market it will face stiff competition from the Peugeot 301 and the Skoda Rapid, among others.
