Ford has announced that its first production plug-in hybrid, the C-MAX Energi, will command $33,745 (including destination). After an applicable $3,750 federal tax credit that price drops to $29,995, or just slightly less than the $30,260 Toyota Prius Plug-in hybrid with its tax credit figured in.

"The Ford C-MAX Energi is within financial reach for those who want a hybrid, but is also something customers will want to reach for because of its unique look and amazing value," said Michael O'Brien, Ford's EV marketing manager. "It offers exceptional fuel economy, better features and a better price tag than a Prius plug-in hybrid, which we think will help make C-MAX Energi one of our most attractive vehicles for import customers."

The Dearborn-based automaker expects the C-MAX Energi to earn a 95 MPGe rating from the EPA, and also reckons that the plug-in will be able to travel more than 20 miles in electric-only mode. The C-MAX Energi uses a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor, with total system output rated at 188 horsepower.
