New to Hyundai's Elantra lineup for the 2013 model year is the Elantra GT hatchback, which will serve as a smaller, sportier replacement for the outgoing Elantra Touring.

Hyundai has announced that the Elantra GT will have a base price of $19,170 (including destination). That's a bit of an increase from the base model Touring's $16,770 window sticker, but the Elantra GT does come better equipped than the old car: highlights from the standard features list include heated seats, 16-inch alloy wheels, Hyundai's Blue Link connectivity system and seven airbags.

The Elantra GT features the same 1.8-liter four-cylinder powerplant found in the Elantra Sedan and the upcoming Elantra Coupe. This mill produces 148 horsepower and 131 lb-ft of torque and is expected to return 28 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway with either a standard six-speed manual or an optional six-speed automatic transmission.

Update - Hyundai has now released complete pricing information.

The $2,750 Style package adds 17-inch alloy wheels with P215/45R17 tires, a sport-tuned suspension, a panoramic sunroof, side repeater exterior mirrors, leather seating, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, a power driver's seat with power lumbar support, aluminum pedals and driver-side auto/up window.

Available only with the Style package, the $2350 Tech Package brings a navigation system, automatic headlamps, a rearview camera, dual automatic temperature control and proximity key entry with electronic push button start and immobilizer.

The six-speed automatic gearbox - which includes an Eco mode that Hyundai claims can boost fuel efficiency by up to seven percent - is a $1,000 option.
