For 2013, Kia is moving its Optima midsize sedan upscale with the addition of the luxury-focused SX Limited trim level. The automaker has announced that the new top-tier model will sticker from $35,275 (including destination), or $7,700 more than the normal SX trim.

Justifying that hefty increase are a boatload of upgrades and standard equipment, with exterior changes including unique front and rear fascias, LED running lights over the fog lamps, a chrome-tipped rear spoiler and lower door sills. Sporty five-spoke chrome wheels and red brake calipers are also included, and only three colors are available: Ebony Black, Snow White Pearl, and Titanium Metallic.

Inside, a host of changes work to give the cabin a more upscale feel: genuine wood trim adorns the steering wheel, door trim and shift knob, Nappa leather embellishes the seats, door panels, and center console, and black tricot fabric enhances the headliner and sun visor along with the A, B and C pillars.

Notable standard features include a panoramic sunroof, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, navigation system with back-up camera, an Infinity audio system, steering wheel paddle shifters and pedals.

As with the standard SX, the SX Limited (SXL) is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 274 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque and returns fuel economy of 22/34 mpg with the help of a six-speed automatic transmission.

"With the arrival of the Optima SXL, the Kia brand propels itself into a more premium class, which is something consumers have told us they want to see when they walk into our showrooms," said Tom Loveless, Kia's executive vice president of sales.
