Mazda’s first homegrown compact crossover will be one of the least-expensive compact crossovers on the market when it goes on sale later this month, the Japanese automaker confirmed today.
With a base sticker of $20,695, the CX-5 undercuts rivals from Honda, Nissan and Toyota, although it will be priced above the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage. That $20,695 price for the CX-5 Sport model includes a six-speed manual transmission, 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Yokohama tires, power windows and locks, cruise control, air conditioning, an AM/FM/CD audio system and push-button start. Opting for a six-speed automatic CX-5 Sport pushes that price up to $22,095. The CX-5 Sport AWD, which is available exclusively with the automatic transmission, will list from $23,345. A Bluetooth audio package will be optional for Sport models.
From there, the Touring model adds fog lamps, Bluetooth, power adjustment for the driver’s seat (with upgraded cloth), a rearview camera, a six-speaker audio system with a 5.8-inch in-dash monitor, leather for the steering wheel and shift knob, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, a blind spot monitor and a rear-seat armrest. The CX-5 Touring stickers at $23,895 for the front-drive model and $25,145 for the AWD, both of which are automatic-only.
Touring models will be available with a $1,130 package that includes a moonroof and a 225-watt, nine-speaker Bose audio system, and a $1,185 Technology Package that adds TomTom-based navigation, an auto-dimming/Homelink rearview mirror, automatic and adaptive Xenon headlamps, rain-sensing wipers and an anti-theft alarm. SiriusXM satellite audio is a $525 option for Tourings.
The CX-5 Touring is likely to be the highest-volume model.
For hedonists, the CX-5 Grand Touring starts at $27,045 for FWD and $28,295 for AWD. It adds 19-inch wheels, automatic headlights, , heated mirrors, a mooonroof, heated leather seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, Bose audio and SiriusXM. A $1,325 Technology Package builds on the Touring’s similarly-named group but adds passive entry keys.
The CX-5′s pricing comes in slightly below that of the CX-7, a model Mazda says it will keep around for at least a model year or two.
A $795 destination charge applies to all CX-5s (it’s $840 in Alaska). Look for the CX-5 to hit dealers within the next 3-4 weeks.
