Mercedes-Benz is reportedly considering moving the world debut of its flagship S-Class from its home region of Europe to China. The all-new 2014 S-Class is believed to be penciled in for a Geneva introduction, but that could change in the coming weeks.

According to the Jinhua Times, Mercedes is considering a Chinese debut for the S-Class to reflecting the country's ever-growing importance to the company's bottom line. In all likelihood, Mercedes would select the Beijing Motor Show for the S-Class' introduction.

"There is no doubt that the Chinese market will be key to the sales of this product; therefore we have a strong case to make for it to debut in China," said Klaus Maier, CEO of Mercedes-Benz (China) Ltd.

Through the first seven months of 2012 Mercedes has sold 111,073 vehicles in China, up a modest 1 percent over the same period a year prior, according to Automotive News. However, Mercedes plans to increase its Chinese dealer count from 217 to 260 over the next few months in an attempt to catchup with luxury rivals BMW and Audi.

Maier added that Mercedes with launch five new models in China by year's end, but failed to give any further details.
