Toyota to take C-HR racing at 24 Hours of Nurburgring

The new sport crossover will be seen racing before it hits showrooms.

Toyota is taking an unexpected car to race at the upcoming 24 Hours of Nurburgring. The C-HR crossover will join its more traditional racing fleet at the famed enduro.

Little information was provided as to what mechanical modifications were made for the race, but visually its already funky styling is made even more so with the addition of cooling vents, more aggressive aero add-ons, and a large spoiler. Lest Toyota put all its eggs in one basket, however, the C-HR will be accompanied by Lexus RC and Lexus RC F race cars as well.

The Toyota C-HR was first shown in concept from at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. A close to production version was subsequently displayed at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. While it is will sell under the Toyota banner in Europe, an additional concept was unveiled at the LA Auto Show wearing a Scion badge indicating it will be part of the youth-oriented brand when it makes landfall in the US.

Toyota has been competing at the 24 Hours of Nurburgring for a decade, treating the race as a testbed for upcoming vehicles as diverse as the Lexus LFA supercar and the Lexus CT hybrid.

The 24 Hours of Nurburgring kicks off on May 26, 2016.
