GM recalls Chevy Cruze to address fuel leak

The vehicles may leak gasoline following a rear-impact crash and rollover.

General Motors has issued a recall for approximately 112,000 Chevrolet Cruze LS vehicles from the 2016-2018 model years.

Internal testing suggests Cruze sedans equipped with tire inflator kits instead of a spare tire may leak an excessive amount of fuel when involved in a rear-impact crash and rollover.

"Under certain conditions in a rollover following a severe rear-impact crash, if fuel were to leak from the vehicle, it would increase the risk of fire or injury," GM wrote in its recall report.

Service technicians will install a lock ring on the fuel tank to shield the vapor pressure sensor from damage in rear-end crashes.
