Boeing highlights 10 personal flying vehicle concepts [Video]

The GoFly Prize program has selected a handful of promising designs from a pool of more than 600 submissions.

The Boeing-sponsored GoFly Challenge has highlighted 10 unique personal flying vehicle concepts.

GoFly asked innovators to conceptualize vehicles that switch from the current idea of "that plane is flying" to "that person is flying." The device must be safe, quiet, ultra-compact and near-VTOL, carrying a person for a distance of at least 20 miles without refueling or recharging.

The competition received over 600 submissions from 30 countries across the globe. A panel of experts eventually narrowed the field down to just 10 winners for Phase 1.

Over the next two years, the teams will compete for $2 million in prizes.
