Ford recalls F-150, Expedition over botched fuel pump welds

A second recall is focused on a brake system defect involving the F-650 and F-750.

Ford has issued two recalls and expanded a third existing campaign, affecting a total of around 12,000 vehicles in the US market.

Certain 2018 F-150, Expedition and Lincoln Navigator vehicles equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine may have been built with bad welds on the fuel pump flange.

"As a result, the fuel pump welds in these vehicles may be susceptible to high-cycle fatigue fractures that could cause the fuel pump to move relative to its mounting flange, resulting in eventual loss of the sealing integrity of the cam cover or the fuel lines and an oil or fuel leak, increasing the risk of fire," the company says.

The second campaign is focused on the 2018 F-650 and F-750, which may be missing corrosion protection plating on a brake hose between the master cylinder and hydraulic control unit.

The expanded recall affects the 2017-2018 Edge, Fusion and 2017 Lincoln MKZ with a 2.0-liter engine and 6F35 transmission. The torque converters may need to be replaced due to inadequately welded studs.

Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to any of the defects.
