Waymo ramps up marketing campaign ahead of service rollout

The latest ad focuses on Waymo\'s roots at Google and its 7 million miles of real-world driving.

Waymo is apparently ramping up its marketing efforts ahead of service rollout to the general public.

The latest ad highlights Waymo's roots as Google's self-driving car project. The name-drop presumably aims to build trust in the Waymo brand following its spin-off into a distinct company under the umbrella of parent Alphabet.

The ad points out that Waymo's fleet has driven more than 7 million miles to date. It also shows animations of the car's machine vision and object identification systems.

The company is still inviting Phoenix-area residents to join an invite-only pilot program. The Valley of the Sun will likely serve as the launch point for a full commercial rollout. Recent supply contracts point to a quick expansion to more cities, however, with 62,000 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans and 20,000 Jaguar I-Pace EVs already secured.
