Following Model 3 delays, Tesla now 'ramping up' solar division

\"People have come flooding in and are waiting on the product,\" says Tesla CTO JB Straubel.

Tesla is preparing to put more focus on its solar operations after the division was apparently neglected during Model 3 production difficulties.

The automaker acquired SolarCity in 2016 for $2 billion. Some critics argued the merger would create a distraction while Tesla should be focusing on ramping up Model 3 output.

As Tesla dealt with "production hell" in bringing Model 3 output up to its extremely ambitious targets, with hundreds of thousands of unfulfilled deposits, the company appeared to lose focus on its solar operations after revealing the innovative Solar Roof products.

"No one should see us as stepping back from solar. In fact, it's the opposite," Tesla CTO JB Straubel told USA Today. "It's like with Model 3. People have come flooding in and are waiting on the product. So now we're aggressively ramping our capacity."

Despite the commitment, homeowners may be disappointed to learn that Tesla will not begin ramping up Solar Roof output until sometime next year.
