Porsche reports 'fantastic' reservation interest in Taycan EV

Customers have begun lining up before the Taycan has been revealed in its final production form.

Porsche claims its Taycan has already generated strong interest from potential buyers ahead of the production car's formal unveiling.

The company recently allowed prospective buyers to begin lining up on a wait list to secure the first units.

"The reaction from customers has been fantastic - from the moment we announced the car to now, when we have asked customers to register their interest for the first cars," Porsche's UK managing director, Alexander Pollich, told Autocar. "They are talking to our dealers asking how to get to the top of the priority lists and asking to access more information."

The executive gave a nod to Tesla, giving the California-based automaker credit for being the 'pioneers' and setting a challenge for Porsche and other established automakers.

"What's clear is that at Porsche we are planning to rise to that challenge, not just with our car, but in providing owners with the full 360-degree view to allow seamless ownership, including creating a supercharger network," he added.

The Taycan will be more of a Panamera than an electric 911, but Porsche nonetheless hopes to distinguish the car as more track-capable than any of Tesla's offerings.

The company is expected to reveal the Taycan in final production form sometime next year, with production slated for 2020.
