Family records harrowing escape by car from California wildfire

The video looks like something out of a movie.

A family recorded video of their harrowing escape by car from a California wildfire yesterday. The state has been experiencing one of worst fires in its history.

A resident of Paradise, California named Brynn Parrott Chatfield posted to her Facebook account a video of her family driving down a wooded road as wildfires rage on both sides. The car passes other vehicles as they flee from burning area. Flames burn right up to the roadside on both left and right as smoke darkens the sky. When they finally emerge, it becomes apparent that it's actually a sunny day. Chatfield wrote on Facebook that her "family is evacuated and safe."

Over 250,000 people have evacuated from their homes as fires spread into communities in both northern and southern California. Strong wind and drought conditions have contributed to the fires, which have now consumed 90,000 acres. The death toll is up to nine people, and approximately 7,000 houses and buildings have been consumed. Nearly 80 to 90 percent of the homes in Paradise have been burned down. The Los Angeles Zoo has had to evacuate some animals.

The California state government website has an updating list of evacuation zones and emergency centers. Stay safe out there, folks.
