Porsche Boxster Speedster [Spied again]

09/22/2009, 4:30 PM

By Drew Johnson

After a ten month hiatus, our spy photographers have once again caught up with Porsche’s forthcoming Boxster Speedster. Final testing has apparently begun on the latest Boxster variant, with the Speedster now undergoing Nurburgring tuning.

Although the last Speedster trimline came on the 911 line, this latest prototype is concealing the Speedster’s classic double humps behind the headrests along the rear deck. As the camouflage indicates, we could expect to see those rises stretch back towards the end of the car.

A Boxster Speedster has been speculated for quite some time now, with many thinking it would be introduced at Frankfurt. Now the hope would be that Porsche gets this ready in time for either Los Angeles, Detroit, or Geneva. If they get the car out there by the end of the year, they can claim that it is celebrating the Speedster’s 55th anniversary. The Porsche Boxster Speedster could potentially get Porsche’s six-cylinder, 3.4-liter engine that produces 299 horsepower.

The slope of the windscreen looks a bit awkward in profile but this car is quite sexy overall

No matter what I love Porsche. It is nice that they are going back to their history and putting out a much needed Speedster model.

the 911 speedster looked bulbous and awkward to me, but this is showing more promise…still looks kinda chicky, tho…hehe

I’m sure many of the old men buying these will appreciate having humps that match their own.

Not worth it if it’s intentionally handicapped in favor of the 911

looks like they have added safety features on the car , probably because of that crash when an engineer was killed while test driving a 911 cabrio.

Pretty cool. Almost like a mini Carrera GT. In either case, it looks far more aggressive than outgoing models…maybe this trimline will remove some of the ‘chick car’ stigma surrounding the boxter.

A coworker of mine has a Boxster, and I never really thought it looked very good. This looks pretty good, though. There are some strange bits, like the windscreen that A4 mentioned, and the way the body flares at the rear wheel looks a bit weird, but other than that, it’s better than the regular Boxster.
