I was offered the buyout I only have 8 years at GM. GM offered me 75K, The way I looked at that it was only 43K after taxes. If I was on Unemployent for 6 moths and Sub pay for 1 year I would get paid 34K after taxes. So that means I was going to get an extra 10K to kiss my great paying job good bye.

I took the gamble and 1,209 took the buyout at my plant and now they are going to have to hire to have enough to run 2 shifts.

GM will survive this Legacy hump. GM won’t be as big as they used too, But atleast they wont be as bad as Ford they plan to cut 30,000 by 2012 that is 4 years to late.

I’m not surprised they accepted. Many of them probably had family to think of and figured it would be better to take the money now than risk getting nothing later. It’s too bad it has to happen this way, but they probably made the right choice to accept.
