395 hp Chevrolet Colorado SS in the works?

02/02/2006, 1:22 PM

By admin

Sport Truck magazine has published a look at what might eventually become the Chevrolet Colorado SS. Like the SS TrailBlazer, which is already in production, the Colorado SS would have the company’s new 395 hp LS2 6.0L Corvette motor. “We’re told GM’s on the fence about putting the midsize hauler to production with either of the LS-series modular engines,” writes Gary Blount. “We’re hoping GM sees that catering a V-8 to a vehicle that is more mommy-based is missing the market by not catering power to a vehicle that would be more prone to hauling. Not to mention, guys who love trucks and power are less concerned about gas prices.”

God knows the Colorado and Canyon could use more power. I test drove one and didn’t buy it for one reason, it was extreamly sluggish. It always sounded like it was towing a giant boat. The transmission could never downshift due to the lack of gears and power.

The Colorado SS is Sick!!!!!!!! If they dont put that thing into production than something is wrong. That truck looks mean…… and would probably look meaner if it was dropped almost to the ground.

I think a V-8 powered Colorado/Canyon would be a good addition to the currently lame GM line-up. Price it below 30k and you would not be able to keep them on the lot. GM needs a low priced performance vehicle (a few of them) and they need to fire the designers ’cause GM has some ugly vehicles on the market right now.

I currently own a 2005 Canyon, 4×4 with the off road package. I love the truck and all its options with one exception……… the engine. The I5 is a good running motor but the truck NEEDS MORE POWER. I hope they come out with a bigger engine soon or I will be looking into a different type of truck.

I like the Colorado Xtreme a lot, but haven’t bought one because of the wimpy I-5 motor. I want more performance than the 5-cylinder can deliver. If Chevy builds the Colorado SS, I’ll buy one, in the X-Cab version. If not, I guess another Tacoma is in my future…
