Mercedes confirms GLK name

08/08/2007, 2:14 PM

By Drew Johnson

Mercedes has officially announced that the name of their up-coming crossover vehicle will be the the GLK, not the MLK as once rumored. The German-built GLK will make its European debut in late 2008, with a U.S. release following in early 2009. While the GLK is more CUV than SUV, Mercedes has given the GLK a boxier look as they plan on marketing it as a compact SUV.

A recent prototype revealed that the GLK will share similar looks with its big brother, the GL, but will only have two rows of seating. The GLK will also offer MB’s COMMAND-Plus to control many of the vehicle’s functions. Slotted below the M-Class, the GLK will compete with the BMW X3 and Acura RDX as well as up-coming models from Audi and Infiniti. Pricing has yet to be announced but should start under $40,000. The GLK is expected make its debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January.

I wish LLN would stop positing japanese faux-luxury divisions as competitors for benz and BMW

I know what you mean the only true rival they have is BMW. Audi is only really a cheap german luxury car. A poor mans BMW or Mercedes if you will. No japanese car can even compete with the Audi let alone the others

So…how many vehicle models from Mercedes-Benz do we have, again? I lost count, seriously. This is just too cluttered IMO, pretty soon you won’t be able to distinguish one car from another except through meaningless letters on them…

Another loser from Germany. They haven’t figured out that Americans don’t buy xxxx that breaks down all the time. They got tired of GM drivers laughing and mocking them in the break down lanes and German cars are about to be exterminated from the US landscape.

This is another wasted effort.

Have you seen the latest civic sales list? Some people don’t mind buying “xxxx that breaks down all the time.”

BETTER THEM THAN ME!
