646 horsepower Civic a street race champion

06/05/2006, 6:20 AM

Enthusiast Anthony Sanchez has netted over $15,000 worth of victories with his customized Honda Civic, reports Honda Tuning magazine. Amazingly, the car puts down 646 wheel-horsepower, according to the report. Sanchez has a 10-1 record at the local street race scene in Manhattan’s West Side Highway spot.

Engine size etc? More info please!

There’s a 650bhp RS500 Cossie here and that’s early 90’s… running a T66 from a 2 litre YB… big BHP from small engines isn’t only a japanese car thing – british fords got that locked down too… just look at Pat Doran’s 2.1 Ford RS200 Evo… 0-60 in 1.8 seconds on his site it said. In performance ford magazine they clocked him 0-60mph in 2.4 secs with a 0-100mph time of 5.59 – not bad for a 1985 Ford – that’s a Veyron 0-100mph time! Also he did a quarter mile in 10.something seconds. VROOM.

Why is street racing news?

Street racing gives other sport compact drivers a bad name, drives up insurance rates, and sometimes hurts uninvolved motorists.

He can take it to the track, or he can take it and shove it.

This actually is big news, because The Fast and The Furious was based on the owner of that Civic, and thanks to Hollywood he hasn’t made a dime from the 3 movies.

dude, I have a ‘86 Justy with a K&N. With all the stickers I have added it must be puttin’ down in the ballpark of 950hp. I’ve even got GT-R and S-type and R-type badges!I smoke all the dopes I come across at the local street racin’ hangout.

Hell, last year I even ran over a group of school children while racing past an elementary school… I yelled “hey biaches, get back in school!” and kept on goin.

Street racing is sooo cool. I get all the hot 12-year olds! Yeah, those high school freshmen are just swinging like monkeys from MY jock. Anyone who says that pimpin out 1 liter four banger economy cars has never seen my Justy….

I can bet you he’ll get the same acceleration with only half the horsepower on that stupid torque-steering front-wheel-drive. He probably loses a lot of time just spinning his wheels.

Torque steer? Honda civic? Torque?

BWWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA

on a serious note though ,you would be right of it being a waste of time putting all the power thought the front wheels

It would pay to read the article though…..its about the guy taking it off the street and to the track.

If the article states otherwise, then LLN needs to change the writeup.

“10-1 record at the local street race scene”

should read:
“10-1 record at the local drag strip…”

Some of those Honda’s can be beastly, but I still cant understand why anyone would chose FWD as a platform for a modded car!!!! And street racing gives all sport compact drivers a bad name, and a 600hp civic street racer is just ridiculous. Take it to the strip, or take it apart.

Yeah, okay Alex. There’s so many dumbasses taking debadging their cars. My cousin took the badges off his Volkswagen Passat. My town is loaded with Audi A4’s and Infiniti G20’s that have been debadged. My friend bought a used 1993 Toyota Supra Twin Turbo that was debadged! I’ve even seen a damn Ferrari that was debadged. Stupid? Yes!

But this goes to show you that the guy isn’t ashamed to drive a Honda you idiot. It’s just something that’s cool right now for some stupid reason.

Thanks GSH. The rest of you guys are car enthusiasts and yet you bash a guy who takes his car and boosts the power of it? “It’s just a crappy Honda” – not to this man, who obviously put in more hours working on that car than you put in reading LLN. I guarantee you that to this man, this “lowly Honda” is HIS Ferrari and just cuz he cant afford a real Ferrari like the rest of you, let’s just talk **** about him since since that’s so much harder to do than building a 650 WHP Civic!

I agree street racing is dangerous, illegal and yet does that stop you from speeding 5-10mph over the limit or more? But WHO exactly draws the line and says that you’re constant 5-10 over is “safe” and his short 0-60 bursts are not? Sorry this is kind of a hard argument to make but I dont really care – the article states the following –
“Like many before him Sanchez found the drag strip more intoxicating than the street. He also saw an opportunity to go faster-a lot faster.”

This guys a stud and sorry but I hope you detractors get smoked by him in his average modified-looking Civic. If he was smart, he’d take off the exterior mods and run stock exhaust and then you’d have a real fun car – a SLEEPER that you’d laugh at in your Porsche when he pulls up to the line next to you…

Ok maybe some stupid people might take off thier bmw badges, but i have never seen that, and i have seen TONS of japp. cars with thier badges off. I drive a classic mercedes and i would never rip the badge off.

And VW are self described “affordable german-engineering”…which to me means “poor-mans german engineering” so im not surpirsed that i have seen a few VW with their badges off. To me debadging you car is saying “I’m not proud of my brand, where my car came from, the tradition and history of my brand etc”. Personally i love to see that mercedes star when i’m driving at night.

A modified porsche is ALOT faster than any modified honda, so the whole “its faster than a porsche argument” does make sense considering the honda is not stock. Ill take a stock porsche vs. a stock handa anything anyday, and a modded porsche vs. a modded honda anyday too, and win both times.

Actually, Merkur had one of our chassis – the Sierra XR4i bodyshell too – and instead of a 2.0 pot, 2.8 v6 or 2.9 v6 (all n/a) they had a 2.3i with a turbo… find it! :)

The Merkur XR4Ti.

But, the RS200 Evo (0-60 in 3.06 seconds stock) was for sale in the US a few yrs back I saw… an ad on the internet for $200,000… :/

Come on,
I ripped the grill and emblems off my S4,and chrome mirrors and window trim-had it all blacked out. It’s not a fad. Its a whole hell of lot harder to get stopped for doing 150mph when the cops can’t tell what they are supposed to be stopping
