I’ve driven a GMT800 Escalade once, and I wouldn’t try any off roading with it. I’ve been driving in the Pantanal with my Range Rover (I live in Sao Paulo, about 1400km or 870mls away) and never got stranded, or exploded, or willing to hit my car with a bat. The only other cars I’d consider trying something like this is the Benz G, the Land Cruiser (not the lexus), and the VW triplets (cayenne, touareg, Q7).

ultimately id take a lr, you cant beat the fun electronic goodies like hill decent, even in the freelander that feature is just too cool, i want a discovery with a snorkel kit. just think about what happens in africa or south america when you need a land rover part, somewhere somehow there is one to be found, try that with a hummer.

I’d consider an LC though. theyre fantastic and the world heavily loves them. lots of great history and great reputation for quality and reliability. but jeeps arent bad, Hummers arent me though. LRs are amazing but pricey to maintain and fix.

^^^^i really like land rovers but that was the absolutely most fixed useless demonstration ever, anybody can deliberately get stuck doing what the caddy was doing, and they never explained the h2. seriously my 2wd frontier can get to the top of that little hill driven properly, but an exuinox would never out offroad a vehicle like the landrover.

NOT TO BASH OR JOIN GM MORON SALES, BUT THE H3 IS A BETTER OFFRAOD VEHICLE THAN THE FREELANDER, BUT THE FREELANDER IS A WAY BETTER ALL AROUND VEHICLE. THE FREELANDER LACKS ANY REAL GROUND CLEARANCE.

The LR2 has best in class front headroom and best in class front legroom. It also has best in class rear headroom and only the RDX has more rear legroom by about an inch.

The escape uses the old mondeo chassis and a V6 with a four speed automatic. The LR2 uses an Inline six developed jointly by Volvo and Land Rover with a 6 speed manual shift capable automatic and a specially tuned haledex AWD system.

I hate Ford with a passion, but the Escape is really well-done. I’m surprised it has nothing in common with the LR2. They bloody well look like they’re platform mates.

I don’t think the LR2 is big enough for a 3rd row. They can barely fit the second row in comfortably. Stupid idea.

The LR2 doesn’t share anything with the Escape. They are on completely different platforms, use completely different engines. The LR2 shares more with the Volvo S80 then any other vehicle currently on sale. Land Rover’s sales have been going up for over three years now. They had record breaking worldwide sales in 2005, 2006 and are on track to do it again for 2007.

1487-GM-SALES… What makes them a POS? I actually like Land Rovers, aside from their reliability problems with the LR3/Discovery and Range Rover.

The Hummer H3 is what’s a POS. It’s not quite a Hummer, but it’s not quite an SUV either… so what is it?

The funny thing is, they are getting 7 seats in a car/truck that is based off of the Mazda 6 platform. That’s some engineering, or wishful thinking. Even a Pathfinder, which is quite a bit larger than the Freelander has a cramped 3rd row.

I will say I like the new LR2/Escape light years beyond the previous model. It looks pretty good, fits better with the Explorer than it did before.

my buddy has a freelander aside from the crappy ground clearance its pretty darn good offroad, its the 2 door version. the removable roof is ok, looks funny with the roof rack though, but all in all its really good for somebody who is not a serious offraoder.

I didn’t think the Freelander was big enough for an extra row of seats. They would need to extend the wheelbase, and that would put it into Discovery territory.

Otherwise, the Freelander is the only small SUV which can go off-road, aside the Jeep Wrangler
