Employees at tuning company Underground Racing readily admit to having warped expectations; how else do you explain coming away from a test drive of the Ferrari 458 Italia thinking “not bad, but couldn’t it use a bit more power?”

The company addressed the Ferrari’s perceived power deficiency by adding a twin-turbo setup that raises power from the stock car’s punk 562 horsepower to a claimed 700 rear-wheel horsepower on 93 octane pump gas.

Underground then decided that the best measuring stick to gauge the performance of their new creation was the brand-new, 700 horsepower (691 bhp) Lamborghini Aventador, so they hit the highway with both cars and a collection of cameras to document the results (the company also promises a twin-turbo kit for the Aventador in the not-too-distant future).

“We were interested to see how they stacked up against each other after seeing a twin-turbo Gallardo almost get beat by an Aventador,†Underground Racing president Kevin Howeth said. “[In the] first race, the Aventador driver didn’t hear the horn beeps of the Ferrari, so the Ferrari got the hit. The second race, the Aventador got the hit.â€

While the “race” is more of an brief, mid-range acceleration duel, its still worth watching to hear the twin-turbo Ferrari in action. Check it out below.
