General Motors may have had its dark ages from the mid 1970s all the way through the ‘90s, but the General made some of the best cars on the road before that era. Proof and point: 72-year old Emma Ely’s 1970 Chevrolet Camaro SS350 has over 1.1 million miles on the clock!
According to Super Chevy, Ely bought the Camaro new in 1970 for $4,400 and has been the lone owner ever since. Since purchasing the car in April of 1970, Ely says she has driven it almost every day – evident by the incredibly high mileage, 1,104,000 miles to be exact.
But the most astounding part of the story is that the car is nearly bone stock. The Camaro is still on its original engine and transmission, and Ely hasn’t even had to replace the car’s rear end.
However, the Camaro has seen three paint jobs over its 37-years and also a minor repair about 10 years ago after Ely was rear-ended at a stop sign.
Ely chalks the longevity of her beloved Camaro SS up to routine maintenance and oil changes, as well as trips to the mechanic’s if she suspects something is not right with her Nassau Blue baby.
Although a new Camaro will be on the market shortly, we’re pretty sure Emma Ely isn’t on any of Chevrolet ’s waiting lists.
