Porsche considering “Cayenne Compact”

10/11/2005, 10:16 AM

By admin

Porsche is planning to offer a new compact SUV to compete with the BMW X3, according to Auto Zeitung. The move seems timely in light of recent concerns over fuel costs, and a trend towards smaller SUVs. The “Cayenne Compact” will be approximately 20 centimeters shorter than its larger sibling. In order to save costs, it’s likely Porsche will turn to Volkswagen for components, or possibly even a platform collaboration. Volkswagen’s Audi plans to build a similarly-sized SUV called the Q5, which is based on the A4 architecture. Lamborghini is even considering building a Q5-based SUV, according to recent reports.
