Motor Trend: the “ten coolest things” about the Bugatti Veyron

12/06/2005, 10:34 AM

By admin

The January issue of Motor Trend has a first-drive report on the Bugatti Veyron 16.4. “As I pilot the 16.4 through of one of Sicily’s mile-long tunnels, and the speedo swings past 280 kilometers per hour (about 174 mph), I now know what it feels like to be a hollow-point slug traveling down the barrel of a long-nose 44 Magnum.” The magazine also has a list of the “ten coolest things” about the Veyron:

  • A second key is required to program the car into its top “speed” mode.
  • How many other cars are ballsy enough to have a horsepower gauge?
  • The top of the engine is exposed; there’s no glass or other cover.
  • It’ll score you the best parking place at any restaurant anywhere in the world.
  • The audio system costs $30,000
  • Switch the stability control off, and it’ll spin all four wheels in third gear.
  • Going 0-to-250 mph takes less than a minute.
  • At full throttle in seventh gear, the Veyron gets less than three mpg.
  • What looks like a secondary rear spoiler is in fact an air brake.
  • Bugatti Requires a deposit of more than $350,000 just to place an order.

It sounds like a nice item to impress others. In reality, how fast can anyone go anywhere? If only one in ten million can buy it, then a high degree of attention will be paid by one in ten million but the rest of the ten million will care less about its existence.

Re: 5

On the contrary – if one in 10 million can buy one, the other 999,999 will lust after it.

Well, that should have been 9,999,999 but you get my point. I’m sure some people couldn’t care less though, but not me – it’s a stunning car.
