I think the fusion coupe will be a big hit. The fusion is already rated as one of the best sedans in america right now. ford is in the process of turning around because they made a mistake and i am positive this will be the best thing they have ever done! the 3.5 V6 coming out soon is plenty to power half of their vehicles considering is has 265 horse power compared to a 300 hp v8 so it seems to be flawless. the 2 door fusion WILL be a big hit… you wait. thumbs up to ford

Ford should scrap the front grill and make the fusion grill look like all the rest of fords cars.

The Fusion is hailed as a good, sporty sedan in desperate need of a good engine. Chop off 2 doors, plug in the new 3.5 V6, improve the tire/wheel package, and PRESTO – a coupe that can compete with the Honda Accord coupe. Of course, Ford needs to use the 3.5 V6 in the sedan version as well. As usual, Ford is several years behind the competition.

I had an ‘89 Tempo GLS Coupe and it was a great little car. I would love to see a Fusion coupe. I’m a tall single guy and find 2-dr cars easier to get in and out of. That picture posted above of an wishful-thinkin SVT is smokin hot!

In the late ’80’s or early ’90’s, Ford had 6 of the top ten selling vehicles in America and Tempo was number 10! F150; Tarus; Explorer; Ranger; Escort & Tempo. My how times have changed. Ford still has the number one seller (F150), but nothing else in the top ten!

I like the idea. I’am a total Ford Man and will buy it as soon as it is available, never bought anything in my life except a Ford product. I would like to see a MKZ coupe as well and would buy it too. So Ford please build it, there is a market for a Fusion and MKZ coupe.

I think that it’s a good idea, as there should more full model lines of cars in each size category (don’t make me think about how we miss out on the Focus Convertible here in the states). I think since GM, Ford and DaimlerChrysler don’t necessacrily aim to make their midsize offerings superior to German and Asian rivals, they might as well add spice to the line of each…I too say a MKZ convertible.

I have been waiting for a FWD coupe ever since the Probe. The 2.3 should be at least 170HP or more and the V6 240HP. NO TURBOS. I’d rather have a V6 than a turbo 4.

If ford makes the fusion a coupe it might even affect v6 mustang sales being close in performance and price. The fusion will probaly get better gas milage too. Yet that is what they also said about the probe.

#15, that looks slick as hell! Ford damn well ought to build it, and a convertible version as well, especially if they add it to the Lincoln line too. According to Wikipedia, the last Lincoln convertible was in 1967, so I think it’s about time…

I’m most definitely getting this Fusion Coupe when my new volvo lease is up in 2 years. Heard that there will be a MKZ (zephyer) Coupe. No word on Milan Coupe. So, either coupe from Ford or Lincoln will be in my garage in 2 years.

Even if it was just their v6 but they made it RWD, that would give buyers another reason not to buy the Accord or G6 or Solara. RWD… now that would be a “Bold Move”. Hear that Ford???

Take a Fusion make into a V8 RWD Coupe. You have a modern muscle car by definition. Fusion could joint the likes of GTO, Nova, and other under powered sedans turned into coupes with beefy drive trains that made auto history.

A Fusion coupe is a great idea. The G6, Accord and Camry all have coupe counterparts. It makes sense for Ford to join in. All they need is an upscale interior, good options, a powerful V6 and a manual and I’m sure they will attract many buyers. As it is the Fusion’s styling is nice and bold.

To the guy up there who says a Fusion is a loser to a Malibu and a G6, you’re an idiot.

I say go for it, but they should tweak it up a lil bit..maybe black out the headlights or something and change the taillights …maybe add a few exclusive options and ofcourse add a turbo!

Honda has the accord coupe, toyota as the solara (yuck) and pontiac has the G6 so it would make sense for ford to consider a coupe. From a design stand point I doubt ford can make anything that looks as good as a G6 or the accord but we shall see.

I’m pretty sure that we need to be comparing this to the Accord Coupe that sells fairly well and is (IMO) more attractive than the sedan version. Comparisons to the Tempo, Civic and others in that class is a complete waste of thought and message board space. It could be a very fine car.

I think the reason for this is the fact that GM can still justify the production of the Monte Carlo, because the ‘win on Sunday’ attitude of car production still works in some markets.

The Fusion is a loser next to the Pontiac G6 and Chevrolet Malibu so I wouldn’t expect a coupe version to be any better so why bother

It doesn’t have to sell “well” to be profitable as long as it doesn’t cost much to add the tooling to an existing sedan production line. Since coupes do appeal to a different set of people, the sales should be incremental–I don’t think many Mustang intenders would cross-shop this. Toyota doesn’t sell many Solaras, likewise Honda with Accord Coupes, but I have to believe the numbers are worthwhile or they would be dropped.

Personally, if alternative body styles are on offer, I would like to see a mid-size station wagon besides the Mazda6, but I guess I’m supposed to consider the 2wd Edge a reasonable alternative (but I don’t).

Look at that! This would be a killer vehicle with the 3.5L in both NA and TT form. The Lincoln website was listing a 350hp TT 3.5L for the upcoming MKS sedan. People that like AWD would love to have this car. The Mustang is nice, but drive that in the rain or snow and you would want the 2 door Fusion real quick. I think Ford should build this. Maybe give a different name like Toyota did with the Solara.

the small coupe market is a pretty wide open segment. a list of the players:

Civic coupe (not my taste. Last gen was better.)
Tiburon (god I love this car.)
Golf (is this considered a coupe?)
Yaris (I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.)
Cobalt/Ion (eh. Mediocre, at best)

I think if done properly, might be a good alternative to the Saturn Astra for those looking for a hot baseline coupe with euro-characteristics. Assuming we get the euro platform focus…
