It must be nice living in Germany. First the autobahn, the Nurburgring circuit and now this. Germans are spoiled on speed.

oh wait, i just saw the other pic. its just a regular SL Gullwing. maybe one of those replicas. wow, i feel dumb now.

They don’t need a replica’s, they have the first batch ever made.

Seems like AMG are only good at speed. Where is the handling and chracter like the M5. AMG can build such cars like the CLK DTM which is probably the best front engine rear drive car on the planet. So why not build the normal production versions with as much enthusiasm.

Last of all WHERE ARE THE MANUALS?????????

you can actually without any shame think that AMG the premeir IN HOUSE mercedes tuning division would keep in pristine condition a REPLICA of the car that was made by their parent company. thats like saying ford used a superformance cobra to develop the shelby gr-1 concept. it makes NO sense wait till after 7am and a cup of coffee im sure the logic will set in eventually.

stuart, youre absolutely right. every car mag i read always says the amgs are quick but cant match the handling and feel of the m5, m3, boxter, carrera, etc. also ive heard the manual gearbox in the slk 55 is excellent so why dont they put it in the other amg cars???

Mercedes does not offer a manual because that does not fit into the Mercedes soul. Benz’s are about blasting across countries in serene comfort and relaxation, they have never really been known for great sports cars. The gull wing was called the widow maker because of its chassis.

Many transmissions now are more efficient and faster in automatic form. The old argument of being better doesnt’ hold anymore… it’s just more fun.

WHY THEY DONT MAKE MANUALS
AMG is performance oriented, manual gearboxes are old technology. SMG is where its at. Look at all F1 cars and Lemans Cars. Ferrari is weeding out their manual gearbox for the much superior sequential manual. BMW didn’t even make the new M5 in manual until it came to america because americans complain about manual manual manual. Germans cant figure out why Americans want old slower technology.
But alas I still prefer a manual to a flappy paddle for the sake of enjoyment, so I guess I shouldn’t talk. But thats the answer to everyones “manual gearbox” complaints.

No, AMG don’t use manual gearboxes because there’s a lack of demand, from it’s demographic. Plain and simple. Sure, there might be one or two buyers who might be disappointed due to the fact there’s no manual option, but the majority rules.

#21 “Germans cant figure out why Americans want old slower technology.”

I live in England and would take a manual everytime. Its not the fastest or most clever technology but it has more driver involvement then all the others put together. It gives the car more soul and doesn’t make it feel like you friving on a computer game. Thats why I would never buy an AMG.

It would be nice if LFN would post the press release.

The AMG Performance Studio consist of three main areas; Vehicles, Components, Unique Solutions.

Vehicles: Signature Series (CLK DTM cab), Black Series (SLK 55) and Editions (IWC)

Components: Wheels, exterior pieces, interiors pieces etc. Say you had a MB or AMG you could add to it.

Unique Solutions: The CLS in the pics, the Gullwing (BTW it has nothing to do with what anyone has posted). This is the area for $$$$ people.

auto vs. manual, mac vs. pc its all tired. get over it and drive what you like.
