2010 Acura NSX: New diagram reveals exterior design

A single diagram of what appears to be the 2010 Acura NSX has found its way onto the Web, offering the first ever glimpse at how the finished car will look. The new NSX, which has been delayed repeatedly, is expected to incorporate a front-mounted, 550 hp V10 engine and a new high-performance, rear-wheel-drive based version of Acura’s ‘Super Handling All-Wheel Drive’ (SH-AWD). A similar RWD/AWD system is also expected for the 2011 Acura RL.

In step with today’s consumption-conscious society, the car is rumored to get a cylinder deactivation system, called Variable Cylinder Management (VCM), which would allow it to run on one bank of cylinders during low-load conditions.

Honda showed its Advanced Sports Car Concept at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show, a preview of the next-generation NSX, but failed to deliver a production version — as Honda said it would — at the 2007 Tokyo show.

According to Dick Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., the delay has been because designers couldn’t agree on the NSX’s styling. “All of the designers are working together on the NSX, but they can’t agree on the styling,” he said in January this year.

American Honda President and CEO Tetsuo Iwamura recently confirmed the NSX will be launched in the U.S. in 2010. Honda will also be launching the Acura brand in Japan and Europe around the same time, but the automaker says it will launch the NSX in the U.S. market first.

As an owner of the outgoing version I would have to say at this point in time Acura should not be planning on taking my money for this new iteration. I almost don’t know what to say as I am baffled that Acura could take the NSX and turn it into this. They better come up with something better by production time or it will flop, especially with a front end that looks like the last gen Camaro.

@F3INT))AP3X, I am with you as this version, if it is the final version, does nothing to carry-on the NSX lineage. I also have to levy the same criticism that is levied at others regarding the the engine since the world is in energy conscientious era why the V10 when Honda has such a stellar engine reputation for its engineering prowess? A step in the wrong direction for Honda/Acura.

I agree to the fullest LLL3 as the new layout completely baffles me as well. I would much rather have them build upon the already extensive existing knowledge of the MR V6 design or even try and make an MR V8 rather than test the waters with this FR beast. It just doesn’t build upon the original principles of the NSX which where light weight, balance, and handling; as well as being economical and every day drivable when compared to pretty much any car in the segment.

Acura has tanked. All their cars look like crap. Hope you’re reading this Acura. Seriously. All the old Acuras were vastly better looking and refined. All your new stuff looks like terrible combinations of bad designs. Example: New TL has the side profile of a $18,000 Nissan Altima. Props. :-/

I think this is result of paralysis by analysis. We’ve heard about NSX for a very long time. During this time gas prices went from $1.50 to $4.25 and back to $1.85 (in my neck of the woods). That scared everyone out of 8 cylinders, but Honda already developed V10 and voula, you need or not you got it. Frankly number of pots under the hood of $100K car probably don’t matter much, but that beak takes it out of competition. The only customers could be Col. Frank Slade (scent of the woman), Ray Charles and AAndrea Bocelli.

This is truly a shame, particularly if they dub it the NSX. There is nothing NSX about this vehicle.. the layout is all wrong and the styling is dated and generic at best. If they call it something else, like GSX or VSX, and price it against the similar Corvette (around $60K) it might do well.. but there is no way this is a $90-100K NSX successor.

11/18, 9:05 PM

They should rotate this same motor 90 degrees, move it behind the seats and drop the HSC concept body on top. Now THAT’s a proper NSX successor.

Maybe with this layout, Honda is showing it can make a muscle car. Granted, it’s not an NSX, but it will still be a beast of a car, and hopefully they will keep the size of the pistons low and give it the ability to go into high RPM’s. That would be exciting, and there better be some good aftermarket parts to get rid of the “beak” as everyone is calling it. And the reason we post on the beak/****ty grills of Acura is because they are so horrible, I saw a real TL the other day and it did frighten me, Acura, bad move

I dont think it looks bad but I admit it seems way to reserved, it has a V10 so there should be some insane side scoops or a crazy hood to say don’t mess with me or you’ll eat my exhaust flames! Acura should stop with this trying to be so sophisticated, they’re attempts at it make the cars look bland.

no lie, im kinda glad they cant agree on the styling, its been piss poor in pretty much every form that ive seen. They need to EVOLVE the original NSX and keep to it, especially the style of the rear taillights/spoiler. And a T-top.

I have a strange feeling this diagram seems off, especially from the side and rear. Just doesn’t look like a real diagram, more like a prototype sketch. But again if it’s truly real, then…No…Acura, why? The front is awful, I expected better from your top designers, we’ve seen good looking Acura’s and when it’s time for the real deal, it ends up like this? Another thing is the seats, they’re clearly identical to the SLR (as someone posted). This car however, is still good, the V10 engine is a beast and the noise it makes is absolutely astonishing along with it’s techno wiz-bangery. I’m just concerned with the horrible front nose, it’s not up to design standards and it’s unacceptable. Oh well, lets hope for the best when the NSX actually debuts.

Agreed *Veda*, it does seem like one of those magazine sketches. I’m really starting to lose hope in many manufacturers, they need to realize a complete change from a previous layout and design is unacceptable no matter what, that is if they even intend to resurrect the name NSX. I certainly realized now that it shouldn’t be even called the NSX anymore, there’s truly nothing NSX about it except for the fact it’s the best Honda/Acura in the lineup. Had it been mid-engined, I’d be more happy than I am now with the current FR layout. The Nurburgring video’s weren’t bad at all, though. I think it’ll make a good competition for the Lexus LF-A or something along that territory.
