2010 Acura RDX [Spied again]

01/05/2009, 1:10 PM

By Drew Johnson

Acura focused on it passenger car lineup in 2008 — with updates to the company’s TSX, TL and RL sedans — but it looks as though Honda’s luxury brand will be switching its focus to its crossover lineup in 2009. Our spies have once again spotted a 2010 RDX prototype while undergoing some final shakedown testing.

While Acura has the new features of this RDX covered in camouflage tape that matches the color of the paint, the changes are still easy to see. The 2010 RDX will take on the new corporate face of Acura — for better or worse — which includes a TL-derived front grille, a restyled lower fascia and new fog lights.

It’s not known if the RDX’s turbocharged 2.3L inline four will receive any performance or fuel economy tweaks. However, rumors are now circulating that the RDX will be offered in a front-wheel drive model.

Although the changes are slight, the improvements should keep the RDX refresh in an ever-expanding segment.

Watch for this new RDX to possibly debut at the 2009 New York Auto Show in March.

You’re wrong about the motor, I have a 2007 RDX and the 2.3l turbo is the best motor Honda’s ever built, it is extremely under-rated in HP/Tq. The boost comes on at 1800rpm and doesn’t let off until 5600, it can really move for its size and weight. The gap in front is actually the hood scoop; they just moved the scoop down to the grille, and the entire hood is double-layered and hollow to duct air to the intercooler. I love the car, I have zero complaints about it and the SH-AWD is not marketing; I recently took it through snow, ice, frozen gravel and 20-degree grades and it absolutely kicked ass — it even engine-brakes for you on downgrades, a very smart automatic.

02WRXPSM,
Im not doubting the engine and I’m sure it performs in the snow. It’s an Acura so its great but for my taste I want a non turbo V6. By 2011 Im guessing all the Acura will be on the new rear drive platform so we will have to wait until them for an all new one with a v6 should they choose to put on in

“The 2010 RDX will take on the new corporate face of Acura — for better or worse” – not for better looks, if anyone ask my opinion.
Turbo 4 cylinder engine is Honda’s trademark in racing. I am not aware of anything better in this engine category.

lol I knew it was only a matter of time Flipper
Borat like I said the Acura/Honda product are my personal favs and they have the best resale etc etc
I just think the racing engine should be in a racing CAR like the Civic SI and the TSX. They should make a Type S version of the TSX and put the turbo and SH AWD in it

I’d choose a Caddy SRX over this.

For that matter, I’d also choose an Infiniti EX35 or Mercedes GLK over this.

My problem is I fail to see how any of them are “luxury”. What options can I get on this that I can’t get on a CR-V, or RAV4? Nothing. The performance is very good, but nothing to make a fuss about. And nothing about the interior is “luxurious”, to me their pretty plain jane.

I considered making a tripleonefour, but I’ll refrain myself.

i agree with 02WRX, i would MUCH rather have a turbo 4 than any N/A 6 any day of the week. Boost Boost Boost, and like he said, all the power is at 1800rpm. Can you get one with a manual? If not you really should be able to… and yeah this engine should be dropped in the TSX tomorrow.

People the Flipper guy is a 13 yo dropout so dont listen to him no matter how entertaining he is
he is another one of the idiots who cant prove that American cars are worth a damn so hes mad and had to come up with a way to vent his anger
Ignore him and he will go away If he doesnt just have LLN get rid of him

A4 A turbo 4 in the TSX yes but not in a truck I know its a techno sporty truck but a V6 would be more suiting and I think it would sell better with one

I like Honda and owned a lot of there cars but it think they made some of the dumest moves of all car makers. That’s the reason their sales are decreasing so rapidly.

All Honda 4 bangers should be Turbo’d.

At least I’d like it that way.

I agree with A4 and 02WRX on this one.

JayJC, the SRX, EX35 and GLK are all about $8,000 more expensive than the RDX even in base models. Our is loaded and I paid $32k flat. SH-AWD is not an option on any CR-V or RAV-4, nor is a turbo motor, nor is leather/heated seats/auto climate control etc. The MDX is the GLK/SRX competitor, not the RDX.

Yeah I would love a TSX with SH-AWD and the RDX motor, it would be a hot little sleeper.

RDX is not a bad car, the problem is the fuel consumption is a joke for a car that size.
Acura needs to figure out a way to make more fuel friendly cars. Most of their cars are gas guzzlers. Screw that.

The SRX is based off the Equinox which is a smaller CUV so it does compete with the RDX not the MDX THe last SRX was an MDX competitor

02WRXPSM,

good for you.

I heard the city average is 12/13 mpg and highway 17/18. Couple people, I know that drive the same confirmed these numbers.

No, they are wrong. I can send you a photo of the dashboard fuel average indicator, if you would like. Your friends must be putting 87 gas in the car instead of the required 91.

Compared to the Honda CR-V, of which there is minimal mechanical similarity, the RDX is much more upscale in terms of interior design, features and performance.
the RDX uses a unique platform developed to handle the vehicle’s advanced all-wheel drive system.
I thought it was the same as the CR-V but I was wrong
