Following rumors over the past week regarding its demise, the RSX is now confirmed to be out of Acura’s lineup for the 2007 model year. In a notice sent across the Acura dealer network, Honda’s Executive Vice President Dick Colliver wrote, “In our quest to provide you and our customers with the very best and most appropriate Acura models, we have decided to eliminate the RSX from the 2007 line-up, thus streamlining our product offering to better fit with Acura’s evolving and more upscale image.” While the news may come as a disappointment to many Acura fans, there is hope for a replacement in the form of TSX coupe, according to some insiders.

One of the things I didn’t like about the RSX was the fact that the Type-S couldn’t be had with an automatic transmisson. That and the lack of a Type-R version here in the States.
A good car has been killed.Let’s respect this car by telling the DAMN ricers to stop screwing with it anymore.
They’re finally getting rid of that stupid econobox dressed-up civic. Thank goodness.
This makes since. Acura will be doing itself a favor by sticking to higher-end performance luxury cars with unique features such as AWD. The RSX is a nice drivers car, but the hot new Civic SI has to be eating into its sales. The difference in the price can be put to better use by the Fast and Furious crowd.
The ricers were the only people buying this car and now that the SI and GTI have absolutely redefined $20-25k 2 door market, this RSX decision shouldn’t surprise anyone. Let’s just hope when Acura does the next TSX, it’ll include rear wheel drive and or a 240+ engine. Seriously, who’d want a Type-S with an automatic?
Maybe that person who wants an automatic has a disability.
RSX didn’t belong in the Acura lineup. It was holding the brand back from moving up market with MDX’s and RL’s. I think this is a good move on their part and hopefully we’ll see a return with a rear drive, true 3-series type car with the next TSX/RSX.
Now that the new Civic SI and VW GTI have absolutely redefined the $20-25k 2 door market with 200+hp motors, this RSX decision shouldn’t surprise anyone. I just hope when Acura does the next TSX, it’ll be rear wheel drive with a 250+hp engine, and a 7 speed manual gearbox for their brand type S offering, as to avoid their S2k and not create a similar situation, even though the S2k is a 2 seater roadster. This should be a good fit for Acura’s line-up.
It needed to be killed or replaced with a new one, but now there is now sports/hatchback out there. The Eclipse has a hatch but NO room. All of the other hatches on the market look like the Golf/GTI. Cars like the Probe and RSX were sporty and had lots of easily accessible cargo room with the seats folded down.
They may not have been everyone’s kind of car, but the Integra and RSX were great cars and have secured their place in automotive history.
Farewell.
Wonder how cheap you could get one now?
An automatic transmission!??! So you want to ‘look’ like your connected to the road with out actually being…. perpetrator
The RSX’s market position is identical to the Civic Si. There’s no place for it, even if it is redesigned.
Acura needs to make a $30k coupe competitor against the G35, IS, BMW 330i.
Taking out the entry level acura rsx? I guess acura is trying to be up there with the more luxurious brands like lexus infiniti bmw etc.
I own a 2006 TSX, and it’s a really nice car. My buddy has a 2006 RSX. I don’t see the point of making a coupe TSX. I guess a coupe TSX would have the K24 engine found in the current TSX, instead of the current K20 in the RSX. Don’t worry about the Civic Si, my buddy just traded in his Si for the RSX, and finds it much better than the Si.
I have a 91 Integra with 310k miles and it is by far the best car I have ever owned. Nothing Acura or Honda has made since can stand up to the quality and durability of this car. I own an 01 Accord and it’s a piece of junk. I just had the teg painted, the engine/tranny run great, burns no oil, not a drop. As a matter of fact, the car doesn’t leak anything. The 3rd gen Integra and RSX never came close to my 91. My wife owns an 00 Integra and even with 40k miles on it, my Integra still feels as solid as the day I bought it. Her car is falling apart, rattles and squeaks abound, along with the Accord. I think I’ll try for 1mil miles. Good riddens RSX, you sucked from day one, hope Toyota, Lexus, Infiniti, etc. kill Acura.
Do you honestly believe an RSX is a step backwards from a 2nd generation Integra? Sorry to hear about your bad luck with the 01 Accord and 00 Integra, but that is definitely not the norm as Acura and Honda are consistently rated near or at the top for reliability. In the last 10 years, I’ve owned two Accords, two Integras, an RSX-S, a TSX, a CRV, and a 3.2 CL-S. Every one of those vehicles has been trouble free and a joy to own. I’m amazed at how Acura and Honda keep out doing themselves and staying ahead of the competition (same price range).
you succck
I own a RSX type-s 2005. It’s a really great car to drive. I have upgrated it with few modifications. One thing the performance is really good. I am making over 250 HP at the wheel. So those people saying bad things about the RSX if you do not own one don’t dis this car.
Sean, you’re full of it. 310k on a 4 banger. Please…with a rebuilt. Small engines are not desinged to go 310k miles with out being overhauled. Who are you kidding, SQUID!!
I just bought an Acura RSX-S, and the performance has been nothing short of what I expected from this remarkable brand. I have awned Mustang GT’s, SS Camaro’s, one SVT Focus, and a C230 Kompressor Mercedes and my RSX-S has been by far the best all around car I have owned. The performance is spot on, and the fule ecconemy is commendable. If Acura were to redesine this car beating the competition would be a breeze if they used the current Civic Si as a starting point.
A good friend of mine drive a 93 Honda Accord aquipt with a four cilinder mortor that just hit the 295,000 mile mark. the car still drives well with little hint of it’s age. the engine idles smoothly and starts with no hesitation. To belive that someone else has a Honda made care that is his/her daily driver w/ 310,ooo miles is not hard to belive. I wonder how long my friends car will run.
This is from a real owner. I bought a 2005 RSX Type-S and everything was great for the first year or so. After around 12,000 miles, the car kept failing over and over again. It’s now in the shop for its FIFTH suspension system because it keeps making a popping sound and eventually collapses. The car then develops an overly punishing, bouncy ride. The transmission sometimes grinds when going into 3rd gear. Parts keep coming lose and rattles are present all over the place. CD changer sometimes gets st-st-st-stuck and won’t play CDs. Exhaust had to be replaced at least 3 times. Need I go on? I lemon-lawed this vehicle because I have al least 32 invoices for several repairs in a one year period. Car has 22,000 miles and I can say that to date, this has been the worst car I have ever owned. It’s nothing but a $25,000 Civic that happens to be shoddily built. That’s why the car HAD to be discontinued. Sure, it sold a lot, but how many of them came back to the manufacturers as ‘buybacks’ because they were defective units like mine? And I’ve driven TSXs and TLs, and I can tell right away that these 2 other cars are built more carefully and with better materials than the crappy RSX. And what kind of name is RSX anyway? They should have kept the Integra nameplate. But then again, no. From what I read and seen, the Integra was better built. Blame it on 9/11/01 but the quality wasn’t there. Good riddance. I think I will get a Subaru WRX or a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO if I can.
“Sean, you’re full of it. 310k on a 4 banger. Please…with a rebuilt. Small engines are not desinged to go 310k miles with out being overhauled. Who are you kidding, SQUID!!”
Um, you might want to check your facts sir…My Dad has 300k+ on his 1987 Honda CRX Si. For those of you who don’t know, that is the 1.5L single overhead cam with only 12 valves making a whopping 90hp. No it has not been rebuilt, had a head job or anything. Just synthetic oil and routine maintaince. It doens’t burn oil, and has the original tranny too. If the body wouldn’t be decaying before our very eyes, it would easily make it to 400k. Before you say something stupid like 4 cylinder cars weren’t designed to make it 300k, you might want to ask around some. I can name other people I know that have 250k + on their 4 cylinder cars.
FOR YOUNG PEOPLE THE RSX WAS PERFECTLY BUILT AND PRICED, BUT THE TYPE S NEED A AUTOMATIC FOR US WHO LIVE IN LA WITH TRAFFIC, HOPEFULLY THE TSX WILL HAVE A FASTER AUTOMATIC CAR AND EQUALLY PRICED WITH THE RECENT RSX.
I own a 2005 RSX type S, I think it is a great car before I drove a 2003 SVT Focus and hated it, I hate to see the car go, I have not had any problems with the car. I do not know what Jose did to his car, maybe he shouldnt be around cars, but that is just a suggestion.
is there will be have a brand new stock 2006 acura rsx next year?
THEY ARE GETTING RID OF THE RSX AND BRINGING BACK THE INTEGRA RSX WERE DOING POORLY IN SALES AND THE NEW INTEGRA WELL BE IN COMPETITION WITH THE NEW SI
I test drove a 2006 RSX S-type and have never wanted to get out of a car more quickly. Generic, forgettable styling and cheap-looking inside and out, with a loose chassis and wretched ride - in fact, my beloved 1989 Accord LXi coupe (owned 17 years and over 184000 miles of use) rides better.
I also drive a 2003 TL (at the end of its lease) - a boring yet thoroughly refined, high-quality model. The contrast with the RSX is remarkable (hard to believe they are made by the same company) - what an embarrassment to Acura! Good riddance to the RSX - what a joke!
Speaking of my Honda, were it not for the fact that it is running hot, the head gaskets are shot and the engine is in need of a rebuild or replacement (surprising, since I have maintained it carefully since new),I would actually prefer to repair and keep it until it dies (it runs smoothly, does not burn oil and has NEVER broken down or needed to be towed). Alas, it is not worth the expense. I would have thought (and wished) that the engine could have lasted longer.
Needless to say, I anticipate replacing both the Honda and Acura with a new Civic Si coupe.
The fact of the matter is, no matter how cute n cuddly with navi and whatever else, the Civic is still a Civic. Hell, even saying the name makes me cringe. I’ve owned one, hated it, now I own a 2006 RSX, my 2nd, and I love it. And the new Civic looks like a Saturn/Nissan Altima hybrid. Yuck! While the RSX is s no M3 but it scoots, ok on gas, great handling and is CHEAP. Acura is going the wrong way by dissasociating themselves from the entry level accessable car crowd and trying to align themselves with Lexus, etc. Yeah, those are nice cars too, but although I can afford one, I will never spend that much because I like to drive, abuse and trade in my cars every couple of years and need to keep the sticker price down to ensure reasonable depreciation costs and ability to keep with a new one every couple or few years. Great, just what the world needs, another Lexus/Infiniti. I loved that about Acura, great pricing, Honda reliability. Too bad. I guess my next car in a few years will have to be a Scion. Yikes!
It’s a shame to see this car go. I’m one of those people the rsx type -s was marketed for, a young professional looking for a great coupe, but not willing to spend over 30k. The civic si is supposed to be great car, but it’s a little too juvinal now that I’m nearing thirty. The type-s was just right. I suppose the GTI is an option, but I can’t stand the way it looks. The mitsu may have a big motor, but it’s not a sports car, it’s a japanese muscle car and doesn’t handle well. There is a 5 door GTI coming in Fall, followed by a 4-door si. Perhaps the GTI will look better with 4-Doors. In 2008 vw will re-introduce the scorcsio (sp?), that will be a great looking car, but it may also bump the 30K mark.
GERMAN CARS SUCKS BIG TIME! REAR WHEEL DRIVE ARE NOT GOOD FOR SNOW.
ACURA AND HONDA RULES!
BENZ, BMW, VW, AUDI, THEY ALL ARE CRAP CARS! THE CARS ARE FAST CUZ THEIR ENGINES ARE BIG AND THATS WHY THEY TAKE MORE GAS.
JAPANESE CARS ARE FAST BECAUSE JAPANESE HAVE BRAINS WHICH GERMANS AND AMERICANS LACK.
GERMANS CHANGE THE SHAPE OF THE BODY OF THE CAR BUT THEIR ENGINES ARE STILL MORE OR LESS THE SAME AS THEY WERE BACK IN 50S.
JAPANESE ON OTHER HAND ARE MOVING ALONG WITH THE TECHNOLOGY.
GERMANS AND AMERICANS STILL STICK TO THEIR 50′S.
AS FAR AS RWD IS CONCERNED, IT SUCKS IN THE SNOW.
ACURA/HONDA ALL THE WAY!
NOTHING CAN BEAT JAPANESE!
What is a “sports car” supposed to accomplish?
Please don’t give crappy answers like should have RWD.
My farm tractor has RWD. does that mean it can be compared in the sports car segment?
I have owned a RSX for a couple of years now and I haven’t even had to repair it. I think it’s an awesome car. I’ve taken good care of it and get it checked regularily. It’s too bad their getting rid of it cuz it’s an awesome car. But theres always something else around the corner. Just gotta wait and see.
2002 RSX type S
I had first RSX at UC Berkley (!)
First of all, the RSX was not for just ricers..sheesh..
The interrior was better than the Integra’s.
It looks better than the cheaper cheesy plastics they put in American cars anyday. This car was out before they finally made the Civic more sportier and better, so yes it took some of the sales from Acura in 2006. The RSX was for fun and got decent gas mileage yet too bouncy and noisy for alot of people who wanted to own one. That hurt sales as well. Why did they get rid of the gold/gray desert silver color in 2006? Beats me, I get alot of compliments on mine for 3 years and no repairs, just oil and gas. Brake job probably soon. Yes it does make sense to stop making the RSX now that the Civic is selling hot now for Honda and make a more luxury sports car with a more comfortable ride with a higher price tag to compete with Nissan’s new Skyline, Z car and the G35 coupe etc..
And no, the integra is not coming back..LOL….
I just hit 25,000 mile mark on my type-s and the thing purrs like a kitten. I have had no problems at all. Threw on an AEM intake and there was a noticable power increase, and in the power band the thing sounds like a mustang. Love the car. Considering getting an 06 type S
The RSX is a good car i blive they pull the pluge on it so quickly : (
3 series bmw are the biggest piece of crap.in fact all bmw are.they have the cheapest interiors,no quality,no basic options for the ridiculous money.you cant even compare the hondas and acuras with junky beamers.you beat on bmw it wont even last two days.you can beat on honda, acura with 300k miles and they are still running.japanese are so ahead of germans that its not even funny.all germans and american cars are joke. Its a very big achievement for Acura being 20 years old car for taking over the market.compare to bmw which i believe is 100 years old.you just cant deny the fact that acura and hondas are the best car that has ever been made.there are no other cars that has an engine like honda S2000 and Type-R acura Integra. They can eat american and german v6 or v8.and both of those cars are only 4 banger and no turbo or superchargers. If hondas can do so good with 4 bangers then imagine a V10 in 2008-09 acura NSX.
I have 1994 honda accord with 230k on it and its still going.and i beat the crap out of that car every day.Go on http://www.hondabeat.com and click on high milage club.2006 Honda accord coupe 6speed will kill Bmw 330i any day.and its a better looking car then bmw.bmw uses the same guages in every car,it seems like they are not capable of making new guages.
