RockStoneSteel.. you are exactly right. I was in a parking lot the other night and saw a large Acura sedan pull up next to mine. I glanced over at it and saw the front wheel bulge and assumed it was the new TL.. but after backing up and seeing the rear, I realized it was actually a new TSX! Despite appearances in photos, this has definitely grown in width and length, and appears to be about the size of the old TL! And the new TL is actually an inch or two longer than the RL. On top of that, they all have essentially the same V6 engine (recently upsized in the RL, but the same basic mill)! Obviously a brand with a serious identity crisis.

Acura appears to be in a competition with itself. Each lower model is growing so large as to compete with the next larger model. Now Acura has no reasonably priced small entry level vehicle. Not to mention they quit making anything cool with 2 doors such as the Integra, RSX, and CL. Acura had the formula before, but lost it. I love the drivetrains and suspension of these luxury vehicles, but I think a lot of buyers like myself, don't care for the pretentious or gawdy "luxury" specs such as wood grain or sweaty leather. Here's what I want, a new RSX with the same 3 door/hatch layout, about 175hp to 200hp, with fully independent suspension, 4 wheel disc/ABS brakes, traction control, and a six speed auto with dual clutch and paddle shifters. It also needs to get 30 mpg and perhaps even be offered with a small turbo diesel. Moonroof has to come standard as well as cloth or microsuede interior. NO sweaty leather or woodgrain. Lose the luxury pretensions and give me the outstanding mechanicals. My '95 Integra had that great balance.

Great news for the TSX and a great premium alternative to loaded V-6 Camrys and Accords.

Still, even in our current economy, the market in the mid-30s is COVERED in RWD sedans with a 6-speed stick or auto option. Honda cannot put off RWD (or lots more SH-AWD) much longer. Honestly, I REALLY like the car but there's little here to draw me performance-wise from the CTS 3.6DI, G37, or the like.

WRX your right i was more or less sayin the TSX needs to be more TL like but thats mainly because if you've ever sat in a TL it feels more 3 series/A4 sized than it does 5 series sized Acura needs to put its cars into very defined market segments because they all sorta fall somewhere in between. Like The RL which is supposed to be flagship material but to me it looks more like a 5 series taker than a 7 series taker

Z06ified, if you'd read the entire thread, or my entire post -- you didn't, I understand, you're not that kind of guy -- you'd see that I was actually talking about the Mercedes 300C Sport, an underrated car at $36k that does indeed compete in the CTS segment and knocks the TSX back into the near-luxury spot that it isn't quite able to fill. As for comparing the STI to the CTS, I didn't -- I said it would blow its doors off, not that it was a comparable car or in the same near-luxury, 4,000lb RWD segment. And indeed, an STI would put a CTS in its place on any surface in any conditions, and keep going 50,000 miles after the CTS dropped dead. I can just think of a lot better things to do with $36k than spend it on a TSX or CTS.

But back to the TSX -- krautninja, you are talking about making the TSX into a TL. Acura needs to do the opposite with the TSX, SHRINK it and make it cheaper, the TL's job is to be an A4/C-class fighter. Also, SH-AWD plays holy hell with your gas mileage; I know, I have an RDX. Adding it to the whole line would be likely subtracting 2-6 MPG from every car. Acura's real problem is that BMW, Mercedes and Lexus have made the $32k-$46k market extremely crowded with lots of really great cars (the IS250 being one of them) and they need to decide whether to be fancy Hondas or to go all the way to luxury cars.

If Honda/ Acura eally wants to make a mark in the world they would do the following. First Audi is one of the only "Premium" Company that can get away with 4cyl or FWD but thats mainly because Their interiors are fantastic and their designs are impressive. Anyone else tryin to follow suit (like acrua) is simply looked as a joke. The remedy? REFURB THE ENTIRE LINE! All Acuras should be offered with the SH AWD. if the TSX is to keep a 4cyl model it should be turbo charged. it should be made slightly bigger to be the 3 series / C class/ A4 competitor. The TL should then become larger with carefull watch to keep it lightweight so that the V6 that Acura insist on keeping will still move the car. The RL needs to be torn down and totally redone from the ground up, since once again honda wont put a V8 they should Turbo Charge the V6 (or twin turbo would be better) keep it competitive with the LS A8 ect. of course they would have to keep the pricing even more competitive for the simple fact they are missing that V8 option in the TL and RL which has become standard and expected of cars in the segment which those cars should be competing in. If honda/acura would take a step back to really think, they can do some impressive things with the engines they have. they just need to stop pussy footing around tryin to stay "affordable" when it comes to the premium segment people know you get what you pay for (usually) and if you build it nice enough people wont mind paying a nice price for it, instead of playing is safe so that they can keep prices low

Where is everyone getting this stuff about the CTS being unreliable? It's not particularly reliable, but I haven't heard ANY major complaints about them.

"and the interior (of the CTS) IMO is garbage."

Thank GQD for opinion!

I would never own an Acura TSX. It's an overpriced Honda Accord with one of the ugliest grilles on the planet. Now that it finally grew some balls, it's still FWD, overpriced, and ugly.

As for all of you with the CTS. They aren't comparable, so drop it.

As for the TSX. This is a much needed improvement but now with the rising cost, they need to improve the fit and finish of this. They are stepping into A4, 3-series, and C-Class territory. That is a tough crowd and being a fan of German crowd.
This would be a good car for a mom or something. It is a bit conservative for my taste and needs to have some "edge" to allow it to compete agains the likes of the 3 class leaders I listed above.

Also, could use either RWD or AWD.

This is Acura admitting the failure of the RL & TL. The nice thing about this car was its 4 cylinder Euro nature, and The TL was that step up to a midsize V6 . Now with the size increases of each generation the upper Acuras have lost their appeal and the TSX has become its most mainstream model.

Your Fwd V6 lame designs are boring just like lexus.....While you cant compare with lexus in quality or pricing why bother cut corners and give us plastic wood and lame cars...atleast do something like Infiniti and be different than making cars cheaper than others with boring designs.....learn something new.... :(

Upside: Interior & percieved quality.

Downside:
Ugly Already dated styling.
Honda V6 are questionable at best.
FWD sucks and Torque of V6 = Trq steer
5 speed is not premium (Ford and Chevy offer better trannys)
Hondas are reliable but delicate (wont stand abuse of teenager).

The CTS is in a different segment, also Cadillac still BLOWS in the reliability/quality dept so there you go. The CTS styling sucks as well, better than the TSX but not by much, and the interior IMO is garbage.

Good news this may be, but with lots of competitively priced turbo-6 powered sedans with AWD, I don't know I could pay.

Still very nice as a pricer alternative to a Camry SE V-6 or 6s GT, nd closer to a 4dSC than the Maxima.

Still looks like äss.

Only reason TSX sales are up a nose is because people are taking it over the even more ässy looking TL, and they are too brand-fixated to cross shop. Still, at the price the TSXv6 will likely come in at it'll be no sale.

I don't trust Honda V6 engines. They make great 4 cylinder but their 3.5 V6 in my 2008 Accord burns one quart of oil per 1000 miles and Honda's claims this normal.

Nobody drives import sh1t anymore and this Honduh is a complete fail. GOod luck getting 50 thousand miles out of this wreck before needing a new car. Shoulda bought a Cadillac which will go for hundreds of thousands of miles and not have a single problem. GM quality is unbeatable and everyone would rather support GM because it means a healthy America. Buy Import sh1t and kiss this COuntry goodbye

Buy American. Buy GM. It is your patriotic duty

I'm echoing here but I thought the same thing. The turbo 4 would have been the more logical pick for the TSX. Still, the TSX did need an alternate powertrain now that Acura completely ruined the look and feel and size of the TL. (AWD and the wagon version of the TSX from Europe would also be appreciated.)

why doesn't Acura just retune the 2.4 engine to produce 220 hp, 200 lb of tourque, keep the 6 sp manual, upgrade the tires to 18 and i think we will have a much more exciting car. Less heavy, more economical and more fun to drive.

I'm not really liking this. I don't like the look of the new acuras. What they should do though, is couple their SH-AWD with a manual transmission like in the TL, because we all know how the TL turned out :)

I have an RDX. The 4-cylinder turbo is a superb motor, it puts out well over the rated torque and hp. The RDX weighs almost 900lbs more than the TSX, I can only imagine how hard that motor would pull with that much less weight.

That being said, $36k is too much. You guys really lack imagination; the $36k segment is extremely crowded, there are certainly better cars in that segment than the CTS (NOT reliable) or the G37 (too heavy, understeer city, is a Nissan). For starters, do you know you can get a Mercedes C-300 Sport, absolutely loaded for $36k? I went to a local dealership a week ago, those guys nearly tackled me as I came in. They are green around the gills, inventory stacked to the ceiling and no one buying. I just had a casual chat with them, never even mentioned buying a car and I'm certain they would have thrown in their daughter's virginity, the deed to their boat and a bottle of champagne if I had actually brought out the checkbook. The 300 sport is awesome, 300+ ft/lbs of torque and a back seat easily twice the size of the TSX.

For $36k you can also get a Subaru Impreza STI, of course, and then tear the doors off any CTS, TL, TSX or G37, but you would sacrifice a bit on the cushy interior and electronics. And the looks, but that's why they make them in black.

point blank.. the TSX is not an enthusiast car. Never has been. Its just a nice Sedan that happens to have superb handling so really it isnt too disappointing that this news comes. Dont get me wrong, i'd love to see the 4cyl turbo with the SH AWD in this which would make this car a true ringer, but alas, Honda/Acura Along side Toyota have a tendency to play it safe. They need to take Nissan's lead and do something Daring for a change. But to everyone that keeps bashing Acura...Look how long it took Lexus to make the IS a option. i mean yes it has always been RWD drive and kinda zippy, but it had mediocre handling, and performance wasnt anything to smile about until recently.

I own a 2004 Acura TSX. This is the best handling front wheel car on the road...without exception. The manual short shift has sweet gearing. The engine loves to rev. Change the tires and it's a fricken rally racer that you can rev the shit out of and still drive to work in luxury. Bonus - it's built in Japan and is reliable as hell. Bottom line is that it is balanced and without the manual and light weight of the spirited 4 cylinder - the character has been compromised. Everybody wanted the v6 but now that you have it, this really isn't the 'European Accord' that the Acura once was...should call it something else now.

Compared to CTS or Nissan or other competitors...they are light years away from the reliability of this thing. I'll not be trading in soon.

The engine loves to rev. Change the tires and it’s a fricken rally racer that you can rev the shit out of and still drive to work in luxury. Bonus – it’s built in Japan and is reliable as hell. Bottom line is that it is balanced and without the manual and light weight of the spirited 4 cylinder – the character has been compromised. Everybody wanted the v6 but now that you have it, this really isn’t the ‘European Accord’ that the Acura once was…should call it something else now.

I'm with CADDY-V...I'm much rather take a CTS over this.

Reasons:
1) Horrible/boring styling. Except for the headlights, nothing attracts me to this car. That ugly Chevron grille that Acura insists on plastering on everything these days is absolutely hideous, and someone needs to tell them that. Then from a side profile it looks as boring as a Honda Accord.
2) FWD and no manual? Wow, not much point having more power on tap if you won't even get to have fun with it. As with other Acuras that I have driven it will probably be as exciting to drive as a minivan. Yawn.

In conclusion, I just don't get Acura fan-boys. Uninteresting cars with not enough emphasis placed on appealing to us performance junkies. But hey, maybe it just all comes down to personal taste....

Borat, you're close. The bomb went off with the front end anime. The fact there's no manual is just the rest of the shrapnel killing off the last real TSX enthusiast.

The point of a $30k plus TSX is?
If I want a V6-auto Acura sedan, I'd get the TL
If it kept the stick.........
But they're both ugly, so who really cares!
Acura doesn't know if they're coming or going

B&O sound systems are awesome, Mark Levinson systems are incredible. I'll admit I've only heard one B&O system in a car and that was in an S8 at a car show. Wish they were available in more cars though!

The only things missing from the TSX now is rear-wheel drive. Until then i'll take a G37 sedan. I am partial to Nissan though, the VQ rocks!!!!!!

BlazeAbraham09
you either have hearing problems or have never even hear something nice from the B&O system. It is definitely better than the Mark Levinson. That does not make ML a bad system because it is my 3rd favorite. the only thing that i have heard that might sound better is the lexicon system in the rolls royce, which is my second favorite. acura's system comes in 6th place after Harman Kardon. I wouldn't hate on lexus because it doesnt have B&O b because i also like ML enough to not care, but if i could chose between which system on a lexus, I would chose B&O every single time!
