For those of you that do not know, SAIC bought the right to the rover name when MG collapsed. So technically, they have the right to do with it whatever they like.

Joking aside, and whether this marque is legitimate or not, the intellectual property issue with China is very serious indeed. There really is no way to police the problem either.
Other than the west boycotting Chinese products in general, I don’t a solution.

“Roewe” as an English brand looks and sounds stupid.

“Rong Wei” sounds quite good in Chinese, actually, though it still sounds dumb in English.

I do like the crest though.

How exactly is this pirated? SAIC bought the rights to MG Rover cars, but Ford exercised an option to buy the Rover name, probably because they own Land Rover and don’t want the brands to be that similar in name. Hence, SAIC had to change the brand name. Besides, wouldn’t a chinese person pronounce ‘Rover’ something more like ‘Roewe’ anyway?

That Nova thing is an urban legend btw. The word “Nova” means the same both in English and in Spanish. “No va” on the other translated roughly to something like “does not go”.
