The Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione is arguably one of the best looking sports cars on the planet, but under that beautiful exterior lies a performance-limited Maserati platform. But if Alfa executives get their way, the next-generation 8C could borrow its underpinnings from Ferrari ’s new California.
Alfa CEO Luca de Meo is reportedly pushing for a high-performance GTA version of the 8C, and a Ferrari-based version could just be the answer, according to Motor Authority. However, Ferrari doesn’t like to give out its top level engineering and construction practices, so a Ferrari-based Alfa could be a difficult task — even for just 500 examples.

Although Ferrari doesn’t like to platform share among its Fiat siblings, it’s not completely unheard of. Back in 2004 and 2005, Ferrari lent its Enzo platform to Maserati to create the MC12, granted it was for a limited production of about 55 vehicles – 50 of which were sold to the public.

Whatever platform the 2010 8C winds up riding on, it sounds as if Alfa has its sights set on making it one of the best looking and best performing cars in the world.
