In addition to the first formal unveiling of its mid-level Giulietta model, Alfa Romeo will reportedly use the Geneva Motor Show to take the wraps off of three concepts designed to show the future direction of its larger 159 sedan and wagon.
According to Inside Line, Alfa Romeo has commissioned the three best-known Italian design firms -Stile Bertone, Pininfarina and Italdesign Giugiaro – to create interpretations of the next-generation 159. Much like auto shows of yore, Alfa Romeo will gauge consumer reaction before selecting a final design for the replacement of the 159.
The current 159 was designed by Giugiaro and was introduced to the world at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show as a 2006 model. It’s expected that the next generation 159 will serve as Alfa Romeo’s volume model when the storied Italian brand returns to the United States and Canadian markets.
It also remains unclear if the 159 will receive an historical name when it is redesigned.
