Alfa Romeo is a storied Italian automaker who’s heritage dates back to its founding in June of 1910, later joining the Fiat Group in 1986.
It’s Alfa’s 100-year storied history it has produced countless cars, many of which have become highly collectible, and nearly all of which were sporty in their nature.
Now, as Alfa aims to re-enter the U.S. market with the help of its Chrysler -Fiat ties, the brand is expected to release two new SUVs, one of which will be based on the recently revealed 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee ’s platform. Our illustrator took known design cues from the Alfa family and applied them in the proper proportions for a new, fairly large SUV that would yield the infamous Alfa Romeo “shield.”
This SUV will be underpinned by the same platform as not only the latest Grand Cherokee, but also the Mercedes-Benz ML. In Europe, this SUV will likely receive the 3.6-liter Pentastar engine, as well as a diesel offering, but the U.S. will likely be limited to the V6 engine – with a possibility of a Hemi V8 to be added later.
This new, large Alfa SUV is expected to debut in the U.S. for 2014, according to the five-year product map laid out by Fiat in April.
