2007 Alfa Romeo Spider

Developed by Pininfarina in conjunction with the Alfa Romeo style centre, the 2007 Alfa Romeo Spider features a combination of standard Alfa design cues with new elements not seen before from the automaker.

The car is offered in a choice of two outfits, and the customer can also choose between two JTS petrol engines (2.2 delivering 185 bhp and 3.2 V6 Q4 delivering 260 bhp), combined with a sporty, mechanical, 6-speed gearbox. The new car guarantees the temperament of an Alfa and excellent dynamic performance thanks to high double wishbone suspension at the front and a Multilink system at the rear. The Alfa Spider combines superb comfort with a sporty trim and an evolved ‘Alfa Romeo Q4’ four-wheel drive system (on the 260 bhp 3.2 V6 Q4 version). And in the safety field, the new Alfa Romeo is fitted with the most sophisticated electronic devices to control the car’s dynamic behaviour: from braking to traction.

These are the winning features that allowed the new model to run off with the ‘Cabrio of the Year 2006’ prize at its first outing (at the recent Geneva Motor Show). This prestigious title was awarded by a Cabriolet Committee made up of 23 motoring journalists from 12 different countries. With its safety, power and attractive styling, the Alfa Spider marks step forward in the convertible field, a specific segment where Alfa Romeo has always played a leading role. The new vehicle has been designed for quality without compromise. This concept has been pursued throughout all stages of the car’s development process, from product design and including the innumerable tests that the car underwent before production. The Alfa Spider’s quality is also expressed in the choice of opulent interior materials; in the tuning of its Alfa Romeo engines to achieve top-level performance, engine note and driving comfort – and in the optimisation of the sophisticated suspension systems. The term ‘quality’ also describes a world of financial services and products to meet all needs.

Still don’t know what all the fuss is about. Personally I think this car is not that good looking, especially for an Italian sports car company. Looks overweight, the triple headlights look awkward, and the wheels are too busy. If Alfa comes to this country with this car only, it will last only a few years.

Leftlane Guys: Alfa’s 2 seat convertibles are always “Spiders”, never “Spyders”.

As to the looks, having seen the preproduction model at Pebble Beach last summer, I can tell you it looks much better than in the pics.

LEFT LANE…INDEED!!! Chris, we are all entitled to our tastes for certain things but I MUST SAY, that you have VERY bad taste NOT to be ABLE to appreciate something as beautiful as the New Alfa Brera, with its six headlights and unique body design! Just so you know, Alfa Romeo NEVER copies from other vehicle manufacturers, they innovate and set the pace for others to follow! Maybe you are a kind of person who likes Camaro’s which is alright but Italian car design is a rule to go by in MANY instances! These people has the God-given gift to stir emotions when they design cars or whatever!!! You got to hand it to them and Alfa Romeo’s has ALWAYS been emotively admired ALL OVER THE WORLD! So maybe you’ll end up feeling the same way…eventually! The same goes for Ferrari’s(which incidently, comes from Alfa Romeo) and Maserati and not to mention Lamborghini…WOW…is that what I heard you say? I’m NOT talking other vehicles down but they don’t have the emotive following that these brands have had…FOR YEARS AND YEARS…I simply adore Italian design especially, Alfa Romeo’s, and VERY SOON the other German marque’s will be biting the dust when they yet, AGAIN, have to learn from…THE BEST!!! God bless, YES, I AM AN AVID, ALFA ENTHUSIAST AND WILL ALWAYS BE :)
